Trail Rage

I guess I was lucky I had the trail to myself the last time I mountain biked Table Mountain. I just read an article, dated today, by Greg Heil, on Singletracks.com, about a trail runner assaulting a mountain biker on Table Mountain in Golden, Colorado, which is outside of Denver. The runner did not hear the rider's announced intention of passing because he was wearing earbuds. When the runner finally did move over, the mountain biker shook his head, which infuriated the trail runner, who began yelling profane threats at the cyclist. Table mountain is a fun looped trail. The two encountered each other again during the loop, which is when the runner attacked the cyclist, including throwing the guy's bike down the hill. As a cyclist, I hope, if they catch this guy, that he gets full punishment, but I'm not holding my breath. In a country where you only get a light slap on the wrist for mowing down a cyclist with your car, a physical assault is nothing. I wouldn't be surprised if this guy walks. If they ever catch him. He ran and hid in a subdivision, like a coward. I did not link directly to the article, as it contains profanity and violence. Instead, I linked to the Singletracks website, where you can search it out if you so desire.

Wow, that runner must have anger issues. Such behavior should be punished. He should have realized the bikers frustration - and realized he couldn't have heard him over his own earbuds

It's never the jerk's fault. Not to the jerk, anyway.

I don't understand why the runner was unaware of his surroundings. I realize he was wearing earbuds, but surely he would have felt the presence of the cyclist? Either way, it's disgusting that the runner got so outraged over a simple headshake that he assaulted the cyclist and his bike.

There's always two sides of the story but I think people should be aware of their surroundings! I am always aware of surroundings!

I know exactly what you mean. You have to be cognizant of what's going on around you.

@infatuatedbby - I always look very carefully when I'm walking while blasting my iPod. Last thing I need is to get hit by a car.

I like your title. Can't believe the jogger attacked the guy. Earbuds is tantamount to "distracted jogging." We live in a Country where the legal system is screwy. If a criminal attacks a cop, the COP can get in trouble if he protests himself. I try to avoid trouble.

@teamfreak16 I agree. On the road, I sometimes phone in dangerous drivers, but for the most part, I just steer clear of "jerks."

I just saw on the news a teenage girl whom threw her baby out the window because she said she thought it was stillborn, and she is not being charged with murder or any serious charges it is absolutly ludicrous someone can get away with any kind of violence!

Sadly this is almost a standard tale. I overtook a young woman on the canal towpath, but as she was wearing earbuds, she didn't hear the bell and nearly toook off when I passed her. At frist I thought I'd caught her with the back wheel, somehow. All ended well, but it is a bit worrying.

Temper Temper, people need to learn to control it better. I have a bad temper, but could never see myself losing it where I actually assaulted someone for shaking their head. Sad! I should be assaulted all the time if that is the case. I shake my head all the time at California drives and how rude people are overall in this state.

I guess the feral behavior I've observed among the children of the 'hood is not reserved for the poorest among us.
