Oh My! I wouldn’t Dare Pass By Them!

Yesterday , when I was already walking past our neighbor’s house , to go outside of our neighborhood and get a jeepney ride to the office , I was shocked to see from a distance two big black rottweilers , in the neighbor’s outside gate , I will still be passing by . They were the dogs of another neighbor and I saw that the master isn’t around. I quickly retreated to just go back the house because I wouldn’t dare pass by them. Then, I saw our neighbor about to ride her car and asked if I can ride going out of our neighborhood because the two big dogs are there where I will be passing by. Thus, we passed by the dogs and saw that the master is already calling them home. My neighbor said they were kind dogs. But I told her, I wouldn’t dare pass by them at all , without their master by their side. Would you dare pass by them, if you were in my stead? Note: Picture is from google

As for cats, I am not scared at all. They are small and I can easily shoo them away. But not with big dogs or even small ones.

I am not sure. I think I would have to see the dogs for myself, and determine their temperment for myself. This makes me think of a time I was in my neighborhood walking. A pitbull came up to me and just stood and did nothing. I went to pet it and it nearly bit me.

See, it nearly bit you. That's because he doesn't know you. And that is the case with those dogs, they don't know me , because they are always just within the confines of the fence of the premises of that certain neighbor.

@SIMPLYD So the dogs are not "socialized" at all? I can see your hesitance in passing by them.

If there are two dogs, regardless of breed, I would be cautious. Even those little poodles can pose a problem for people if their owners are not near.

@rebelann Well, they don't know me on the first place so that's why I am afraid of them . But if they know me, I won't . Yes, chihuahua can be ferocious. My nephew's chihuahua would always bark at me , when I go to our parents' house. Yet, I was just staring at her.

It would depend on the dogs personality @SIMPLYD since you have no way of know what it is then it's wise to steer clear ..... you're much more likely to be attacked by a loose chihuahua than a rottie, those lil kritters can be really mean.

Well the dogs don't know me so i guess that they won't like me passing by. To be honest i would be afraid to go anywhere near them. I have a dog too and i can remember the first time they brought it home. I was scared and always used to keep my distance from him. However today i am quite attached to this dog.

Precisely. Although, unlike you, I am afraid of all kind dogs. I actually, experienced being bitten by a small local dog who didn't bark at me when I entered the gate of my friend's house. He simply walked toward me and bit me on my ankle. Good thing, I am in denim pants so the fangs didn't sink into my skin. What I did, was I kicked him and he was thrown far.

@SIMPLYD I experienced something at Eli's Mile High Club (a blues bar) in Oakland that is worthy of a post. A female pit bull barking at me through a fence. I sat on the ground and leaned against the fence, so she could sniff me. And then, suddenly, someone opened the gate, and she was upon me...

i would still pass by because i am confident that the dogs won't hurt me; i take good care of dogs and i don't eat dog meat. it is a perception that dogs bite at people because they can smell if the person eats dog meat.

@ridingbet Hmm. . . I ate meat when I was a little kid. My mother's brother gave me a piece of caldereta, not knowing that it is meat. It was delicious. But that was the last, since knowing that it's dog meat.

@SIMPLYD the dog meat attaches its smell in one's skin, i was told. that is why when a dog ferociously barks at a man, it is believed that person eats dog meat for 'pulutan'.

To me it depends if they start barking in a mean way or not. Dogs like those and dobermans and pit bulls can be very nice and gentle dogs. It depends on how they are raised. I understand why you did not want to pass by them and I may not want to either if they could get out of the gate. I would not want to take my chances.

Oh you have a rottweiler ! I have read that they are actually loving dogs. And yes, that really depends on how they were trained. Though on my part i will never dare pass by the two rottweilers, outside the gate of the neighbor whose house is on the side of the only small road leading to the main road. They don't know me much as I don't know them at all too, so they might misconstrue me as an intruder and bite me.

Really! Did you get injections for them? I was also bitten by a small askal at my friends house when I knocked at the gate and there was no response so I got in. Then this small dog didn't bark , but went near me slowly and bit my ankle. Good thing , I am in my maong pants so the fangs didn;t sink into my flesh. Then I kick that dog so hard that it was thrown and it ran away. I just washed my ankles with soap and water even if the fangs didn't sink into it. From then on, I am so afraid of dogs too.

At the animal shelter that I ran, we had all types of dogs @SIMPLYD . It does depend on how the dogs are raised but the biggest factor is if they can SMELL your fear. When you show fear, your body exudes through the skin cells a scent that the dogs can pick up on (since their olfactory sensors are 1,000 times stronger than a humans). It tells them that you are an easy prey. We had Doberman's, Rottweiler's and Pit Bull's at the shelter and I worked with training them.

I would but I don't fear any dog or pets. Dogs can sense fear and that is what makes the get all nervous. I have passed by and played with many dogs that people and ever the owners of the dogs said the dogs were "bad" or "aggressive". For me, there is no such thing as a bad dog or aggressive dog. Just like with kids how they are raised ahs a big impact on how they turn out. If the dog is "aggressive" or "bad" it is because they were raised that way. Yea I know there are dogs that bite people or attack people but most of the time it is because the dog is provoked or threatened. I know it is sad when it happens to kids but if more parents taught their kids to respect animals and not pull on them, hit them, yell at them, or get in their faces then there would be fewer accidents like this. I also don't believe in putting a dog down because of human stupidity. If you abuse and animal then expect to get bit. If someone came up to a person and punched them, got into their faces, yelled at them, hit or pulled their hair or tails no one would blink an eye when that person turned around and bit or hit the person abuses them. If someone came up to me and jerked on my hair like I have seen people do to dog's tails I would bite them too.
