Telling the truth when it's hard, AND funny.

Years ago, my family and I lived in California. I was so young I have very little memory of it, although we went back several years later for vacation and I enjoyed it. Anyway, my parents had a couple in their church come over for lunch one Sunday after church. In casual conversation they started talking about cheese. Apparently, this couple raised goats, and made goat cheese themselves. My dad had never tasted it. The next Sunday they brought my dad a big chunk of goat cheese as a thank you for dinner. When they got home my dad tried a small piece, but spit it back out. He tried to keep it down, but couldn't. He didn't want to hurt their feelings because they had been so excited to give it to him. Ever practical, my mom pointed to section of the kitchen counter. She instructed my dad to throw the cheese exactly where she indicated. So he did. The next time he saw the couple they asked how he liked the cheese. He replied, "It hit the spot!"

Goat cheese has a distinctive taste, I do not like it a lot, I love sheep cheese (the Italian Pecorino).

That's funny and he did tell the truth lol. Better not to hurt anyone's feelings. I have never had goat's cheese either and really have no intentions of trying it.

Ha ha - I love goat cheese. There's a local family who make the best and I often buy it from them. I like it in both recipes and salads.

I bet I would like it if it was in a dish of some kind.

ha ha. so i was talking to someone about goat cheese. i absolutely love it. but i guess that the thing with goat cheese is that some people taste the smell of goats when they eat it & so they hate it. so they taste it differently i guess. it was interesting.

lol that is a good one!! Sometimes that happens!! I don't like pumpkin pie and this woman at work said it was only because I hadn't tried her pumpkin pie so she brought a pie into work and gave me a piece. I had to sit there and eat it in front of her and pretend I liked it. Gagging all the way through it but not letting on. When I finished it she asked me how it was and I said it was good. So then she told me I could take the rest of the pie home with me. I stopped at the beach on the way home and fed it to the seagulls..lol They loved it!!

I had some homemade cheese one time..that was so strong..and the flavor so intense..I really didn't like it. That cheese would have been "hitting the spot" too.

That was clever of your mom to tell your Dad to do that, so that he didn't have to lie or hurt their feelings. I love cheese made from sheep's milk - Roquefort, but I'm not fond of goat's cheese.

I don't like goat cheese and loved your Mom's suggestion. That is certainly a good idea for any of us that receive something we really don't want to eat again.

My parents always get a huge wheel of goat cheese from a friend . i find it as the most disgusting smelling and tasting piece of so called cheese to ever be called cheese. its most definitely an aquired taste.
