Ever Get Burnt Out on Certain Types of Foods?

Growing up we had spaghetti every week. It was homemade and delicious, but now that I'm older I cannot get myself to eat much of it at all. I'll make it for my husband and daughter every week to every other week or so, but I'll have about 1/2 of a cup portion if that. My husband once last year made a decent sized amount and then got upset that I didn't have much. My daughter couldn't believe that he never noticed that I've not eaten much spaghetti in quite a few years. The other food that I'm burnt out on is pizza. Yep, you heard me right, pizza. I didn't eat that growing up, or maybe we did but we have the chef boyardee type where it comes with the crust and you add the toppings. And, we didn't have it very often. The reason I think I'm tired of pizza is because when my daughters were young we had that on a weekly basis. I was fine with that until I hit my fifties and then things changed. Now, the only way I like the frozen from stores is if it's a thin crust. I purchased a spinach and cheese one, in the picture, and was surprised at how good it really was. I don't normally like cooked spinach but I will eat spinach greens in a salad. If I do eat any pizza the family is eating I add red pepper flakes to liven it up. And, I found out last year that I can be addicted to Hungry Howies asiago stuffed crust pan pizzas. Therefore, I can't buy them too often. Have you gotten tired of certain foods you ate too often either as a child or when your children were little?

Hamburger was always the cheapest meat so we had hamburger meat a lot. Not necessarily hamburgers themselves, but hamburger patties, or a hamburger casserole. I rarely eat anything with hamburger meat now. I never thought about it growing up, and it didn't matter then at all.

We probably had hamburger in loads of casserole type dishes growing up too, but having that has never bothered me. That could also be because we didn't have it too much when raising our own kids.

@AmbiePam When my older boys were growing up hamburger was the cheapest meat to buy back then. I guess in a way I did get tired of hamburger because I used it in everything. Now it seems that we can get chicken cheaper than we can hamburger. I sometimes get tired of chicken. On my part, it's not so much the taste of the chicken or eating it, it is the fact that I am the one cooking it.

I have never liked spaghetti, I don't remember if it was because it was cooked too often when I was little or if I just don't like it.

@MarshaMusselman ......I don't know why I like them so much. Had them a lot when I was young and you'd think I'd be tired of them but can never get enough.

I can take or leave potatoes and I used to eat a lot of noodles, but could eliminate that from my meals too. I will eat potatoes, I just don't make them at a lot of meals any more.

@celticeagle Potatoes aren't usually a main meal and they can be made all different ways which change their flavor and texture. If people ever got tired of potatoes the stores probably wouldn't sell as many as they do each year.

I am tired of fast food places. We don't normally eat out but the past few times we have the food has been horrible. Over the past year, I have found that I hate Taco Bell, Burger King, KFC, Papa John's and Pizza Hut! I am only moderately tolerating McDonald's because of their fries and the Big Mac. Hubby suggests eating out and I cringe. I don't mind small privately owned restaurants. We have a nice local Fish Fry that is great as long as we only eat there once in a blue moon. The same goes for the local Mexican restaurant. Of course, I could eat Chinese takeout every day but that is a different story. As far as home cooked foods, I have not become bored with any of them. Now, if you ask me if I am bored of cooking, the answer would be an affirmative YES!

@MarshaMusselman My husband loves Pizza Hut and I think it is just "ok". We debate on where we are getting pizza from if we order it.

@Shellyann36 We have a Jets in the area which we've never had before. A few people like it and we should check it out sometime, but it's on the other side of town although that's only fifteen minutes away.

My daughter eats out a lot but we don't or at least not so much in the colder months when the cash flow is less. We do tend to do a bit more of that in the summer especially if I worked longer into the day. I'm not tired of any of those places other than the pizza ones. I do like Pizza hut's pizza's but we only get that on a yearly basis if that.

My mom wasn't much of a variety person - so I did get tired of certain foods, but ate them anyway because I had to. As we are Japanese, we often had rice and miso soup . . . that was a staple, but ugh having it all the time was just bleh (now I love them). This goes the same for macaroni and cheese and other boxed pastas, Spam (yes, we had Spam a lot), and the way she made salads (always the same, with the same vegetables and dressings).

@MarshaMusselman That's why when we had our own family, I made it a point to be a variety cook . . . I know I don't like eating the same things over and over. And I know what you mean by enjoying a particular food and having it over and over too to the point where you have an overload of it. Mmmm, I love cilantro!!

@much2say When my kids were young I generally worked the supper hour and therefore when I was home my kids wanted pizza from one place in town and it was easy. There are certain casseroles that I make that I doubt we'd ever get tired of, but I make them only a few times per year since they are a bit time consuming.

I think sometimes if you catch it soon enough and lay off eating certain foods too often then you can introduce them and enjoy them again. It all depends. I've tried new foods like certain types of salads in the past several years and found I enjoyed a cilantro dressing which was surprising since I don't really like the herb itself. I ate that too much in a short amount of time and no longer like it.

Too bad we're not all sensitive with the smell or taste. We'd be a lot healthier if we didn't drink soda or eat sugared products.

@Lucky15 Everyone should before it's too late but most wait until they have a heart attack or stroke before making the necessary changes. It's wise to see the need while young. Having a little may not be too bad, but the problem is most of that is addicting and we just want more. I've been craving Easter candy, but I know if I buy some I'll eat one bad in one to two days time, so I'm trying to stay away from the store for that reason.

We tire of foods here too, I usually change up our menus with the seasons. I try to get what I can when it is fresh and in season, although in our cold climate, that isn't always possible. We're in our transition time now.

I know, or at least I think I do. You mean transition as in you're moving to your new place on Friday this week? I don't remember, did you end up selling your house your in right now, or are you hoping it will sell quickly once you are completely moved out?

@MarshaMusselman Most of the time I never prepare something twice a week, or similar food on a weekly basis. This evening I am going to prepare something that I do not make from long time, it is a Greek eggplant casserole called Moussaka.

We used to eat Mexican food but homemade each week and haven't had that in a very long time, but not because I'm burnt out on it. We used to do burritos all the time and have since switched to taco salads. I don't see that I'd ever get tired of Mexican, but I wouldn't guarantee it either. I don't normally eat the same thing each day, but often once or twice a week we have something similar on a weekly basis, or at least it used to be that way.

I'm extremely tired of chicken no matter how its prepared. One day recently it just totally turned me off. I've switched to turkey for the time being. I don't think I'd ever get tired of pizza

I don't think I'd have gotten tired of pizza had we not had it that often. Did you ever eat pizza on a weekly basis or close to that? I can enjoy hungry howies made a specific way. I almost feel addicted to those, so try not to have them too often. I can't imagine getting tired of chicken, but I never had that one overmuch either.

I've had several such experiences in my life. I used to love certain foods and had them really often and then I didn't eat them again for years or never again. Spaghetti and pizza in abundance - are you of Italian origin?

Not at all, but I had spaghetti a lot when I was growing up and then both spaghetti and pizza when our daughter's were still in school. Those two food items are staples here in America along with certain Mexican foods. Then there's a wide range of everything under the sun in between. I'm almost 100% polish with maybe a little bit of German somewhere on my dad's side. I can make a few polish meals too and then all sorts of casseroles that I'd think would be fairly generic.

I ant imagine being sick of pizza or pasta. We certainly have pasta at least weekly. Pizza, we make our own and so can customize any way we like. I can't get sick of pizza either!

I didn't really get tired of these until I was well into my fifties, so give yourself what twenty or thirty years and then let me know, lol. I would have been surprised when I was younger to think I'd ever get tired of these two foods, so you never know. I've heard that as we get older our taste buds will change, but you don't really think about it related to common foods that just about everyone eats.

I'm still not tired of eating anything, and i don't have children yet but i can relate your experience to my sister's. As she doesn't eat cookies anymore because she has seen her kids eating n have eaten with them that she hates it now.. And pizza, i like it with much chilli flakes too but I love without any toppings

Without any topping meaning just with sauce and cheese only? My older daughter doesn't like greasy cheese so when we order and she's with us, we'll get one with 1/2 of the cheese left off. I know some are allergic and don't have the cheese because of that. For her it's mainly a choice thing. I would love it if I could hate cookies and sweets. I try not to bring too many into the house because when I'm bored I'd go looking for them.

Yes, I get tired of eating the same old thing. I have to change things up. I like trying new and different foods. Since I have to eat healthy to lose weight on the diet the doctor put on me. I am finding new dishes to try I would not have done so before.

I don't really get tired of having certain foods, though right now, I am sick of chicken. Any more chicken and I will grow feathers and lay eggs. As for pizza, if I continually buy it from the same place, I will get tired of pizza from that particular place and will switch up. Spaghetti, no. I don't know it is has to do with my appetite but even if I eat an entire pot by myself (which I have), I don't get tired of it. And that is when I have it once or twice a week. Usually, I try to apply the three strikes rule on food in a week. If I have it three times in a week, I have to switch it up with something else.

Not really being one for Pizza I just do not see it as a meal but as a snack. I know the kids seem to like it. There are so many varieties available but I can't see the fascination of them. To be honest I only like Margarita pizza plane tomato and cheese. The way pizza should be in my humble opinion is thin crust. But what do I know. The only thing that I have stopped having is Lime. I used to love it but one year when we were in Thailand they went into over drive everything is smothered with lime. Now I can not bear the taste of it.

I have found I eat very little of what I used to eat all the time, spaghetti is one of those items. It's okay once in a while, but not regularly. I'll go down the pizza aisle thinking I'd like one and then turn the corner to another part of the store. Even fruit has hit that area of non interest, but thankfully I still love bananas. I don't eat sandwiches very often either, so buying bread has gone way down. So yes, I have gotten burned out on different foods.

I am just tired of food in general, truly if I didn't have to eat to sustain life I just wouldn't bother. The worst part of my day is what are we having for dinner. That said I love love love pizza.
