Do you write for yourself or for your readers?

When you write, do you write to download your thoughts and feelings and won't care who will read it or how others will react?
Or do you write, with a target reader or audience in mind, your purpose is to validate your beliefs or test how the readers would react.
Honestly, I write what I think, sometimes I am impulsive specially if I'm feeling strongly or emotional about something or someone. This elicits unexpected reactions from readers, some good and some bad.
On Facebook, I was told that I was patronizing. That's true, as over there, I want to be as positive as I can and imagine my readers... smiling, motivated and inspired ;) I also get the wrong impression that I have an idyllic life. Far from it though, there are issues in my life that I prefer to deal with privately.
Do you write for yourself or for your readers or to both?

@vickyrose I still have my diaries, they are all in a box, so many of my memories are in those diaries.

I used to keep a diary when I was in high school too. I lost them now due to moving residences. Your writings are very informative to your readers.

I guess we can decide to write on the safe side to illicit interest from readers.

@vickyrose What I mean is that I consider my audience before I write. I mean if I'm writing an post for a poetry website I'm not going to going to write about my favorite sports team. I think you just have to pick your time and place to write.

We are all here to interact with the global audience. We need that for relaxation and my posts are all about what i would want the world to know.

@vickyrose what i mean is if i didn't care about the length or the topic or how many times i post or the responses it gets (positive, negative, zero), i would probably earn $5 every month.

Sometimes I get stuck if I try to write for money. We can't really make writing in MyLot our bread and butter

I think I try to find something that people will want to read but sometimes I just share with friends.

I write for myself. Whatever story idea I come up with, I write it.

I guess it would be a mixture of both depending upon where I am writing. Of course, I keep a diary that is for my eyes only. That is where I keep the things that I am writing for myself. When posting on places like myLot I am mixing it up and when posting at some of my paid forums, I am then writing for the forum and the readers on a particular topic.

I try to write blogs for myself to express my views of the world events in the entertainment and sports world but I am careful not to cram my admiration of PBS Kids hero Wordgirl down anyone's throat.

I write for myself to get my thoughts out, but usually when I write, I'm also hoping that others will find it funny/uplifting/moving.
