Off to the battlefield....

United States
April 2, 2017 7:22am CST
Not war but to a place that sometimes has fights, sometimes has people dressed in camo and a place where emotions sometimes run high. That place is.... Walmart. We have not been to Wallyworld in probably three months. We don't buy food there so unless we need other things it's not our hangout. But today we'll dress for battle and go up and down the aisles looking for the items on our list. Once we finish there across the road to the grocery store where it's always calm, especially on Sunday mornings. What are y'all up up today? Photo from Pixabay.

Watch out for those armoured trollies which are designed to bump your ankles.

@MALUSE Many people in Britain seem oblivious to the fact that the Highway Code applies to pedestrians. I constantly see people using either side of a narrow pathway or escalator. I even saw a sign at a local shopping mall stating Please Keep Right at the stairway, which is the wrong way around.

I don't push the cart, that's my husband's job! When my first husband and I were in Hawaii I shopped on base and the officers' wives thought that they owned the store and one rammed me so I rammed her right back. I had no fear - of course they could have written my husband up - oh well.

@Asylum Once we had an English language assistant in our school. Her mother came to visit her. After her first shopping experience in a supermarket she was convinced that the Germans were extremely rude people. They had always crashed into her trolley. Why? Because the woman hadn't realised that traffic runs on the right on the European mainland, not only on roads but also in supermarkets. It was all her fault!

Supermarkets aren't open on Sundays in Germany. So no fighting there today. :-)

Years ago stores weren't open on Sundays here either - blue laws. Sunday am while eveyrone is in church is the best time to shop.

This does surprise me because they have been open on Sundays in Britain for a long time now.

I always try to avoid Wal-Mart like the plague, but somehow still find myself there every other week or so. As much as I hate that store, and loathe interacting with the people in there, I can't help but find myself shopping there every now and then! They do have great prices, and our local Wal-Mart is located just a mile down the road from where I live. Plus, the convenience of being open 24 hours a day also has its advantages. But like you said, when you go there you have to be prepared for entering a war zone! haha

@moffittjc What bothered me was when I worked a 4-midnight shift and would go to Wal Mart and people would come in with their children in tow, at one in the morning on a school night.

The parking lot had 10 cars at most - so the store was empty and we were in and out and even walked the whole store without any issues! That's why we go at 8:30 am! We usually go a few times in summer for pool supplies but that's in the garden section so we run in and out fast.

@AbbyGreenhill I have never seen our Wal-Mart parking lot with less than a thousand cars! haha No matter what time of day, the store is always packed! Even at 3:00 in the morning! And we have 4 Wal-Mart super centers in our city, and they are all packed 24/7! It's crazy!

Easter candy has been out for two months at the grocery store. Last time we went to WW was before Christmas.

@PainsOnSlate If I had my husband do all the shopping it would be a 'basics only' or I would have to write a 1,000,000 word detailed list!

Church, rest, and relaxation. Oh, and some book writing. I'll also play a game, part of the relaxation thing, and of course I will be here for a little while. Have a great day and I hope it isn't too bad in Wallyworld.

It was a breeze, hardly anyone in the store, flew thru checkout lane and took no prisoners! Enjoy your day.

Good luck and don't forget your helmet lol. Nothing here today except my beloved Chicago Cubs start their season tonight. I can't wait. I have local elections on Tuesday and I'm an election judge so I won't be around on Tuesday. Polls open at 6 am I have to be there at 5 am, close at 7pm and hope to be home by 8:30pm or so.

@AbbyGreenhill Just local elections for mayor and alderman and the like, so should be a long boring day. Last local election we got 30 voters out of 700, guess they don't care who gets elected mayor. Our town is very small only 3000 people here.

@fishtiger58 That's big - we don't have more than 1200 in our entire county LOL!

Mostly stayed at home since I'm on vacation. Watched 'Chicago PD' in the morning and then visited my parents for lunch. In the afternoon, I went out to run some errands and now I'm back here in the site.

Exactly the same as Germany where @MALUSE lives. Everything is closed on Sundays in Switzerland, we crossed the border to go buy our weekly Italian magazines, to have a real espresso and then back home.

@AbbyGreenhill For the moment our Government refused to let the stores open on Sundays. People go buy what they need on Saturday or late in the evening on Thursday, the only day the stores are open until 10 PM. Thursday is the busiest day in the stores.

@LadyDuck I think of grocery stores were closed around here on Sunday there would be a revolution.

I was just reading about all the frozen food recalls going on at Walmart. We're going to try out the just opened Winco grocery store this morning. Its been packed to overflowing. If I can't find a parking spot- not joking- we will head to Safeway across town. I should have gone to get food on Friday but have not been feeling good. Most go this morning. Must.

We only have one 'real' grocery store - Ingles. I don't buy food at Walmart. New places like you said are always busy when they first open. Wish we were closer than an hour from a really good grocery store.

I woke up with a migraine and it made me feel slightly nauseous. I took two Aleve and feel somewhat better but I am taking it easy at the moment. I am laying on the couch with my laptop and watching the NASCAR race right now. About Wally World,,, I always try to go on week days earlier in the day when all the kids are in school. It is always less crowded which makes it much more of a better shopping experience.

OUrs must be unique as it's never busy - Sunday am early is the best time. When I had migraines nothing much made them better except a dark room and peace and quiet. They went away when I quit work and moved south.
