Chone Figgins reached the majors in September 2002 and through a technicality, was allowed on the Angels’ World Series roster against the San Francisco Giants. Because of his blazing speed, Figgins was the designated runner and never had a World Series at bat. Figgy played for the Angels for eight seasons and his 280 stolen bases makes him franchise leader. His 62 steals in 2003 led the league. Beyond stealing bases and being an ideal leadoff hitter, Figgins’ greatest value to the team was a remarkable versatility as he capably could play second, short, third and all three outfield positions. The Angeles let Figgins walk away in free agency to the Seattle Mariners and he was never the same player.
