More Problems In Internet-land

Yes, more problems in internet-land. I received my bill from CenturyLink and they were charging me more than I was quoted. I figured it was a “bait and switch.” So I called. The lady who answered the phone said her name was Lisa. I told her, in a very nice way, that I wasn’t getting the discount I was told I’d get. She was very nice and said she would look it up. After Lisa looked it she asked how much I was quoted. I told her $29.99. (My bill said $49.99 with a discount of $4.99–so instead of $29.99 it was $45.) I listened to her typing away on the keyboard. She said the discount was probably lost in the second transaction when I ordered the modem. Then she said, “I can do better than that. I can get it for you for $19.99, basically $20.00, a month.” I asked if it was a year’s contract. Lisa told me it was. I thanked her and she said I at least deserved that after the problems I had. I went from a near boiling point to very happy. That is going to save me $120 for the year’s contract. A real help to my pocketbook. One thing I’ve learned over the years is if you keep your cool instead of blowing up you usually fair better. If I would have jumped down her throat I probably would not have gotten any better deal than I was quoted. If my bill had been for the amount I was originally quoted I would have never called. So in the end my internet-land problem turned out to be serendipity. Is there anything you can remember that turn out to be serendipity?

All these mix ups . . . seriously the people there are not on the same page! But luckily this gal was on your page . . . heck yah - you got a better deal than the original one! A serendipity in a similar way . . . let's see. Well once I had a couple very old gift certificates for a department store . . . not gift cards, but actual paper certificates. The department store closed down or got sold, but at the time when I checked the balance, I was told that another department store would honor them. Maybe a decade passed and I still had those certificates . . . I finally tried to make use of them - I think it was over $50. Well, this department store didn't know what to do with my certificates . . . it's possible they were no longer valid and I didn't blame them really. It went through several customer service people . . . and finally one lady bothered to take it to the department managers . . . it took a super long time to get any sort of answer. In the end, they issued me a $100 card for all the trouble - I couldn't believe it - and was really grateful for that! Yes, remaining nice about things can take you farther than you expect. No one will be willing to help if you get on their bad side!

Cool, doubled your spending power. Your old certificates were probably thrown in the trash and by giving you a $100 card made you want to do business with the store. When you need something where is the first place you're going to check for it. Of course the store that gave you $50 more than your certificates were worth. They most likely figured over time you would spend more than enough to make up for that $100.

@RichardMeister True. I spent all of that $100 on that day that I got them (I got some good Christmas shopping done) . . . I didn't want to go through another hassle if I let another decade go by again .
