Lace dress at Hospice Thrift Store was interesting

Lace dress at Hospice by Pat Z Anthony

The photo taken by me at a Hospice Thrift Store seemed to be a wedding dress. It was obviously at least vintage if not antique. No one at Hospice knew the history of the dress. While trying to think of how the lace dress could be repurposed, the thought came to me that the dress needed to stay right there at the Hospice Thrift Store. Someone out there with better ideas might purchase it and put it to good use. Do you buy items at thrift stores to repurpose?

Sometimes I do. I often buy pretty silky sheets to line my quilts and I'm always on the lookout for material. The dress is lovely but I wouldn't know what to do with it.

Other than for window dressing, this item would probably be useless. The material is very dehydrated and the threads are starting to let go @RubyHawk

@PatZAnthony Some people hang pretty fabric on the wall as decoration. You might consider that.

@RubyHawk Some we know would have the perfect place to do that.

I don't shop at thrift stores....but some young bride who wants a 'different' wedding gown would probably use that dress as such. Although on taking another look - it appears to me to be a dressing gown, maybe used for the wedding night.

we buy them to use in our Ballet shows - they make for great costumes for period dances

That would make sense @Inlemay Maybe a local person will buy it for such a use.

I love fossicking through thrift stores. You never know what you're going to find. Isn't it sad that no-one knows anything about the dress?

We also found family photos in a thrift store. How sad these would just be donated @JudyEv

@JudyEv Sending it to a museum might be a nice idea. We are not sure what to do with many items we find.

@PatZAnthony That is sad. We have a photo album in a cupboard that has no connection with us. Vince scanned and put images from it onto a website for the owner of the album. She doesn't want it back and is now dying. We don't even know her well so the album sits there for the moment. I might send it back to the museum in the lady's home town although the photos aren't particularly interesting to anyone other than family.

It does look antique - and probably expensive.

It was probably an expensive item at one time @Kandae11 but at the thrift store, a bargain.

@1hopefulman This is so stiff with age and the threads are crumbling. Not good for too much now.

That is an interesting dress. I do not blame you for leaving it for someone else. I am not creative enough to come up with ideas on my own. That is why I am an avid Pinner and YouTuber and I look for great ideas on their sites. If I find something I like then I will hunt for items to repurpose.

@PatZAnthony That would be a good idea but it would be rather wasteful. You made the right choice to just leave it. Someone may fall in love with it and buy it to wear. Good luck on finding your next craft project!

@Shellyann36 It is so still and tattered with age, don't know how anyone could wear it, but maybe.

Sometimes things have just run their course @Shellyann36 and this was something that could be cut to line picture frames, but could not serve for much else.

@PatZAnthony I love to get my souvenirs from second hand charity shops when we travel. I'm helping a cause and getting to talk to the locals at the same time.

That's a new dress. Not to repurpose, but to donate and be put in good use. I donate books when I can when I finish reading them.

It was an older dress as evidenced by the sewing style and thread @KristenH We really enjoy looking for bargains we don't need in these shops.

@PatZAnthony - Oh, yes! Show us photos of some of the things you have found. I have found clothes a few times at a fraction of their retail price. That always feels like a win to me!
