Gatorade VS Hawaiian Punch

April 5, 2017 5:12pm CST
A few days ago I bought three bottles of Gatorade (710ml) because I was in a hurry and they were on for $5. Today I could take my time a bit more, and I desperately need to spend wisely, so I bought something I normally wouldn't. I try to stay from things with lots of sugar and because of that I never buy juice that is labeled any type of punch. Hawaiian Punch was on sale today, three for $5, and they are 1.89 liters. I decided I would just water it down, and wound up mixing it equally with some decaf tea (no sugar added). While I was mixing some Hawaiian Punch into a Gatorade bottle half full of room temp tea, I decided to check the sugar content and compare it to the Gatorade which I thought would have a smaller amount of sugar. It turns out they have equal sugar content, equal carbohydrates, and equal calories. I used to be a camper at a cancer camp, and worked one summer at an Easter Seals camp, and on the hottest of days they give the kids Gatorade because apparently it's the best way to hydrate and a really healthy choice. I've come to learn that sugar in water helps our body absorb it faster, but if your not worried about dehydration Gatorade really doesn't seem any better than your average value brand juice. In fact, Hawaiian Punch has a ton of vitamin C, and Gatorade has no vitamins.

no sugar? only if you're not looking for it! I see two-or-three kinds of sugar in it!

When I get to the grocery store myself (agoraphobic) I like to buy fruit flavored decaf tea, with no sugar added it makes a pretty great juice. I usually mix two flavors in a bottle. What kind of juice do you drink? Is it a health choice?

I prefer Hawaiian Punch. I actually have never had Gatorade. I do actually often take into consideration that Hawaiian punch has Vitamin C. I buy Punch, Juice or Juice mixes periodically. But Usually I just drink water at home. And tea (with milk and brown sugar and honey) while at work.

Vitamin C is such an important aspect of what we drink. It is water soluble and therefor flushes out of our system as we urinate, and it constantly needs to be replaced.

We always did Kool Aid at the camps I worked at, either that or we did water.

My camp as a child did a lot of Tang, which was surprising considering that the camp was for children who had experienced or were at higher risk of experiencing very serious health problems. That stuff grosses me out because my mom only bought frozen concentrated juice and we always added more water than it called for. We also didn't have pop in the house, and I didn't like the fizzy feeling from it until I was in high school, so drinks with lots of sugar are not appealing to me at all.

I think both represent waste of money.

Trying to eat fewer carbs, I read something about 'how the electrolytes in gatorade are the kind of carbs that turn right into energy'
