Brat. Fresh food and water...and he wants to go out...and the first thing he does is drink from the ditch. Must be the crawdad seasoning or something. Perhaps I need to start dipping his water bowl from there...

Is it my imagination or have you removed his chain?

You might not see it on a phone, but there's a yellow lead running to him

@JolietJake I missed it here and on another photo which made me query it. He has developed into a beautiful cat. Must be the muddy water.

Lol my dogs do the same thing. They will have a bowl full of water and when we go outside they will drink from a puddle somewhere. I'm always like really?

He was on the porch throwing a fit yesterday because I had the lead set up to where he couldn't get there, finally moved it to shut him up

Preiti refuses to drink water from a bowl. It is now kept in a tiny saucer which she spills and then laps it up from the floor. I have yet to understand her logic.

I remember my father's cat enjoyed drinking running water, right from the tap. Scar is okay with a cheaper solution, that's good. And yes, I think you should fill the bowl with that delicious crawdad water over there.

The cats drive me crazy with the water, I keep a bowl of fresh water outside and they all go to drink in the pond. The water of the pond is not clean, I have not yet did the Spring cleaning, I do not understand why they like it so much.

The only concern I have is there was a snapping turtle that showed up here a few times last year...he's inquisitive enough that he could get hurt

@JolietJake The snapping turtles are dangerous, I hope that Scar is careful and not too curious. Tomorrow if it's warm enough outside, I clean the pond and change the water, I do not like to see the kitties drink that water.

@Happy2BeMe He got his paw nipped by one last year, you should have seen how fast he jerked it out of the hole...then just sat there staring at it holding that paw in the air...

Maybe it is the crawdad seasoning. My cat will drink from the tray under the house plants with fresh right beside in his water dish

Louie (my old cat) gave me fits for a bit...I had a leaky water heater and he insisted that was where he wanted to drink from. When we replaced it, I had to end up moving his water bowl next to it to shut him up.

Ahhhh, fresh, well sort of fresh, rainwater just cannot be as good as tap water to a kitty cat.

Princess found the bird bath to be delectable last night. She was being very kittenish, stalking the neighbor kid, and climbing out on a limb as far as she could go.

I had one that didn't like cold water...I had to 'warm it up' for him a few times a day or he'd sit and cry at me.

Ours is like that too, only with the birdbath. And if he chooses that as an alternative to fresh water, we daren't even dare imagine what he's eating instead of fresh food.

First of all, cats do NOT like their food and water to be in the same place. Eating and drinking are not 'companion' functions like they are with humans. Second, cats can detect all sorts of things in tap water that we can't smell (or have gotten used to) and they really do prefer 'organic' water - that is (often) water with all kinds of organic things in it which we'd consider unfit to drink. Water straight out of the tap either has chlorine in it or it smells so uninteresting that they probably doubt that it's water at all.
