The Raging Bumblebees

That was the name of my daughter's team in a charity foosball tournament on Sunday. The Raging Bumblebees were one of 28 teams that competed in a life-size human foosball tournament to benefit the Xtraordinary Joy Foundation. The foundation is dedicated to addressing diseases, issues and conditions related to missing genes on the X-chromosome in children. I wish I could report great news of the team winning the tournament, but that honor was bestowed upon the University of Florida women's soccer team, who placed two teams in the foosball tournament and ran away with the victory. Those girls have some serious foot skills! Have you ever participated in a human foosball game, or have you ever played foosball before?

Sounds like a worthy cause. Congrats to the winners. I do enjoy a good game of foosball but I have not played in ages.

@rebelann They may not have won, but they sure did look fantastic out their in their bumblebee costumes! The definitely deserved a ribbon/medal for their creativity!

I used to be quite the champion foosball player back in my college days. I'm also pretty sure I haven't played the game since my college days. For the sake of my dignity, I won't tell you how long ago that was!

If foosball is what I think (table football), I have played many times when I was young. My brother had a football table.

@moffittjc This is what I thought. It was a very popular game in Italy in the late 50's and the 60's, all the boys played and many times also the girls. I played with my brother.

@LadyDuck The game is still somewhat popular here in the US. I know all the recreation centers in our city have them at their facilities for the kids to play.

@infatuatedbby I told my lifeguards about it today, and they were all giddy with excitement at the thought of getting to play human foosball. I had to bust their bubbles and tell them we had to wait a whole year until the charity did their fundraising event again.

@moffittjc As opposed to animal foosball?

@DianneN Yes. The sport of animal foosball was banned in 1999 over concerns of how the animals were being treated. Several large protests and numerous accusations of animal abuse and cruelty put a stop to the practice. Soon after, human foosball replaced animal foosball. ...and everything I just said above was a complete fabrication! lol

@JudyEv It definitely was fun, and it was such a beautiful day that it was the perfect day to be outside doing something like this. The only thing that would have made it better was if our team would have advanced farther in the tournament. But we still had fun!

@moffittjc The title Raging Bumblebees is a scary name to me. I am not a bee person. It was for a good cause even participating in it. No, I am not a foosball person.

I love bees, and I especially love bumblebees! When my azalea bushes bloom every summer, I'll have hundreds of bumblebees flying all over the bushes collecting the nectar out of the flowers.

@Hannihar I had one land on my nose today when I was outside! I just nudged it lightly with my finger and off it flew in search of flowers!

Even if they didn't win they had the pleasure of being part of it. I have to answer no to both of your questions.

@moffittjc The fun is what is important also. I remember when I was coaching sports I would tell the kids, "Win or lose let's have fun."

@velvet53 I agree with your philosophy on kids sports. I was the same way when I was coaching. I told the kids, no matter what happened--win or lose--we were going to have more fun and create more memories than any other team in the league!

I went to see what foosball was about, so it's table soccer. I played that one before. I've never heard of human foosball though, that looks fun! There's always the risk of getting kicked on the legs, but at least you don't run on a field all the time.

There was definitely a lot of leg-kicking going on, so I'm sure most of the players will have bruises all over their legs for the next several days! haha

Well the nice thing about human foosball is that you don't have to run around, and you get to hold on to a bar/pole!

No worries at all about losing. Everybody had so much fun it didn’t matter who won or lost!
