It turned out well

Sally and I have worked together for hours. She's attended a couple of obedience classes. She's a good girl though a bit got to go! cause after all she is an Australian Cattle Dog and that means get the job done NOW. I took her to Roommate this morning. Sally walked by my left side like she has been taught. The doors of the nursing home wheezed open. We walked as a team down the hall. A lady heading to breakfast wanted to meet Sally so they had a little meet and greet. Once we found the correct room, I let Sally loose. She really had a good time greeting her buddy. She obviously missed Roommate. Roomie wanted her on her bed so I told her: Tell Sally UP! and pat the bed. She did and up zipped Sally. We never got entirely through to a Good Citizens certificate for Sally but she knows her manners. She politely greeted several people before we headed for home. Roomie gave her bits of peanut butter toast. All the hours of learning- me more than her- were worth it. We'll probably go back before Roomie gets out of the nursing home cause having Sally in to say hello did her morale a lot of good.

I wish I knew more people who weren't afraid of dogs, here most of the elderly I am aware of which isn't a whole lot are happiest if no dogs are present, I'd be miserable if I didn't have dogs around. Cats are ok too, but they're so dadgum independent.

@rebelann Sally and I left residents alone if they did not approach us. Quite a few wanted to talk so then we talked.

Such joy Sally brought to your roomy. Such good manners she has. I do bring Molly to the nursing home, and she behaves well there too. Molly adores elderly people and is so gentle with all.

@bunnybon7 Yes on dogs being best friends ever. Years ago a dog saved my life. I've never been able to fulfill the debt I owe dogs.

@bunnybon7 I agree. The herding breeds like Sally are so intelligent. She never leaves me with a dull moment.

Sounds like Sally has learned well. Hopefully roommate will get better, too.

@RichardMeister Sally has been a rocket dog but now middle age is finally mellowing her a bit. I'm worried about roommate. She seems to be getting a bit stronger.

@RichardMeister Yes and there may be a lead for an apartment for her. Spokane area possibly. I sure hope so cause we can only help house her for so long.

@Shellyann36 You are right about animals being good buddies. How many fur persons do you share life with?

I think dog visits are wonderful. Our dog, Macey, would be good at that.

@OreoBrownie Maybe you could call a nursing home that is near you and see if they'd like your Macey pup to visit.
