Diary 9th And 10th April 2017

Diary Sunday 9th April 2017 A very nice day out again weather-wise as I hit the library for some job search activity before doing my final laundry wash before the convention event tart on Wednesday for me. It was starting to get a little chilly and windy later in the evening. Diary Monday 10th April 2017 It rained in the night but the Sun was coming back out and I woke to one of the brightest rainbows I ever saw. Activity wise it was almost a repeat of yesterday, with another library visit followed by science fiction convention preparation, and contact with some other performers in the poetry events Iā€™m taking part in over the Easter weekend at the convention. The best thing however has to be the phone call from the call centre I was being mandated to attend interviews for work with against my will despite horrendous shift patterns ā€“ they turned me down. I was trying to sound terribly disappointed on the phone while feeling ecstatic. Hence one of the happiest songs I know, appropriately all about a Rainbow Connection. Youtube ā€“ Kermit singing The Rainbow Connection Arthur Chappell
"The Rainbow Connection" is a song written by Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher for The Muppet Movie and originally performed by Kermit the Frog.

Awesome, but always find it sad we have to lie about such things. Love Kermit and the song though. Pretty real in these times more than most music.

How did they dare to turn you down? I am glad that you were not disappointed.

@LadyDuck I dropped lots of hints and deliberately gave dumb answers to a few questions - otherwise I'd have thrown myself under a bus

Were you ecstatic because if you got the job you'd have to miss the convention or for other reasons? Is the convention related to writing in different genres or just talks in those categories? Even though I enjoy reading sci fi and watching movies and shows I've never been to a convention on it before. I did attend a talk about writing once several years ago, but I'm not sure that I remember anything from it. I did take notes, but haven't a clue where that notebook might be. With all the easily found helps that about online I don't expect any problems if and when I ever have time to do some serious writing.

the talks vary from authors talking about their work / inspirations, actual science demonstrations, our own robot wars, cabarets, fancy dress, poetry, my talk on science fiction, book / magazine illustrations, demonstrations of real martial arts - assessing whether fight scenes in films are credible, etc, publishers talking of what they want / don'r want etc and much more

@MarshaMusselman the job wouldn't start until may - the danger was more mandatory interviews from them and feedback sessions from welfare that could have delayed - prevented me getting away

They didn't want you?! *Gasp* ... Now you must complain to the Job Centre bods! Lolz. Glad you didn't get what you didn't want. I haven't seen a rainbow for ages. We've had sunshine and no rain for over a week now. It's looking a little like it can't decide right now though.

There ought to be a greetings card: 'Congratulations on not getting the job that wasn't worth having'.

That is such good news. How did you dodge doing a happy dance on the end of the phone?
