Visited 2 Daycares Today

I was so hopeful that today would be the day I would find the perfect daycare for my granddaughter. We ventured out at 9 this morning. It was raining and by the time we reached the first daycare, it was pouring. Thankfully I always have an umbrella in the car. Little miss didn't like the daycare. It was a bit on the small side and really not large enough for 5 littles (my opinion). The other children were curious about my granddaughter and tried to engage her in play. She was happy when she found a basket of dinosaurs. She loves them. Shortly after we arrived the provider told me she was open 8:30-3:30. That isn't going to work for me. I had been working 7-4, but told the scheduler I would have to availability to reflect an 8-4 workday. I thanked the woman for her time and she wished me luck in finding someone to take my granddaughter. She tried to apologize for her hours, but I fully understand. She has children of her own that have extra-curricular sports after 3:30. She needs to be there for them. So, on to the next daycare. I wasn't too keen on the daycare being run out of her basement, but it was set up very nicely. It was a little cramped, but spacious enough for 5 children. I was impressed. She may have an opening soon. Not sure what that means though. I did forget to ask her if there was an alternate exit in case of fire and will ask that if we are offered a slot. I am waiting on paperwork from one of the child care associations and hopefully will be able to find someone from that list. But, for now it seems we may be home together for a while. I hope something gives soon. I really can't afford to not be working for an extended period of time.

@Happy2BeMe a friend has offered to watch her on the weekends that I work. I may work on Saturdays for a while to get a little income. Hubby works on Saturdays as well, so it won't be too bad. Even if it is for just a few hours, it will be good.

Years ago when my kids were little it seemed a lot easier to find a sitter for them. Now with all the rules and regulations it is more difficult.

Well I hope you find someone to take care of your granddaughter so you can go back to work. Is there family that can watch her until you find a day care that fits perfectly ?? My sister had to find different sitters this week as her regular one went on vacation for spring break it is tough..

FInally found one! I did a happy dance when she told me she could take her. I do have a couple of days where I need to either take time off or find someone else. I will probably take the day off.

@Blondie2222 it will only be an occasional day off. I will enjoy the time with my granddaughter.

@ElusiveButterfly Glad you found one but sucks you will still have to take a day off. I hope they don't mind you doing that every week or is it just once a month you will have too?

I hope you are able to find something for her soon. It could be good for her to have other kids to play with. But at least you are able to be there for her until you find a spot for her.

@dodo19 she hasn't had many younger children in her life to play with. I am glad to be able to get her out to socialize.

She loves being around other children, and I like for her to be with other children as well. In the meantime, I take her for playtime at a friend's home. She has a 2 1/2 year old and they get along well.

I remember the struggles I went through finding a good daycare for my own two children when they were little. I searched quite extensively before I found the perfect fit. Good luck to you in your search, I hope you have success soon!

I mentioned to my husband that I may not be able to get her into a daycare until May. He didn't say much about it. In fact, he didn't say anything in response. We sort of expected this to happen. I am happy that he is understanding and willing to do what is right for our granddaughter. Have been told that situations change in daycare at the drop of a hand. Some are on a waiting list for pre-school and they leave for that. So I am hoping that something will come up before May.

Things always happen for a reason, so if the reason right now is that your little granddaughter needs you to be with her, then the bills will just have to wait. Eventually an opening will come up at a day care acceptable to both you as her, but in the meantime, enjoy her and love her up as much as you can (which I know you already are).

My husband will have to take up the slack and yes, money will be very tight. However, we have gotten by with much less. She seems happy and is adjusting well to her new surroundings. Once we get her bedroom set-up I know she will find new joy and perhaps a little insecurity. We will gradually move her to her own room to sleep in.

I hope something comes up soon, but maybe for the little miss it's better that you spend more time with her while she adjusts. I know that it is a burden financially, but hopefully it works out soon.

She does need lots of snuggles. I know she is still a bit insecure. Everytime we visit with her Aunt or Mother, she is whiny and needs lots of love when we get home.

The second one was the best. I liked the owner and how she had her daycare set up. Later that evening I spoke with a friend who had her daughter in her care at one point in time, she said she was great.
