I found an interesting fact. I realized here the fruits are much more expensive than vegetables. I do not really why.

Vegetables are generally planted in the spring and harvested when they are ready...some within weeks, allowing multiple crops....fruits generally take several years between initial planting and harvesting the first crop....then you have one crop per year that is susceptible to so many forces....weather, rain, or lack, disease and insect infestation.

It sounds like planting fruits are much more difficult than vegetables.

@youless there is a lot more time and expense before you have your first harvest. This would explain the higher cost.

It's still the law of supply and demand, prices go up when supply is low and demand is high, prices go down when there is over supply and and the demand is low. The law does not only apply to fruits and vegetables but everything else perhaps this would explain very well your query.

@louievill You are right. It is quite weird to go to visit your friends with vegetables

Perhaps more fruits are imported? I think we also import rice from Thailand.

@youless could be, but if nobody wants it then it wont be expensive, the price will drop. Mango is expensive in the U.S. but it just falls down on the roof of my house or I can also go to my neighbor and ask and he would be more than glad to give. My other guess is more people want to gift fruits that are expensive status than to gift vegetables

@youless ~I would imagine that it's the principle of supply and demand. Fruit is usually sweeter and more appealing so it is priced accordingly.

Some vegetables are quick-growing, and you can harvest within 30 days. Fruits are different. You have to wait for the plants to grow, flowered, and then they will bear fruits. It takes a longer time. Plus fruits are heavier than vegetables, so it cost more to transport the fruits.

I don't know that vegetables can grow so fast But some gourds still spend longer time to grow.

@youless The faster the vegetables grow, the cheaper they are.

Because it takes more time to grow fruits and they are more vulnerable in case of bad weather or late freezes.

I think here people seem to plant more vegetables than fruits. And the fruits will be expensive plus the transportation charges.

@youless Some vegetables, like the tomatoes, continue to bear fruits for months, while once you have picked up all the cherries or apricots, or plums, from a tree until the next year you have no more fruits to pick up.

I like Fruits.Because they are the main providers of vitamins, minerals, salts, fibre, energy. Eating them is said to be prevent many disorders, and build immunity. Also no need to cook. I like apples very much....

I hadn't really thought about it but now you mention it, yes, fruits do tend to be more expensive than vegetables. Others' comments make sense about being seasonal and how they grow and keep. As I live in England, I'd also assume that a lot of our vegetables are cheaper than our fruits because we grow more vegetables than fruits here.

Here, often fruits come from far away and most vegetables are grown locally.

I'm not sure why unless it's more expensive to grow and ship.
