Ruby was missing for hours yesterday

United States
April 13, 2017 6:56am CST
Ruby has a schedule and her internal clock is so good we could set our real clocks by her and her actions. Her last meal of the day is usually around 5:00 pm. At that time my husband and I are in our recliners watching TV. Ruby will come into the room and be all over my husband like white on rice. She gives him a look, a tail wag, a kiss or two and he jumps right up to feed her. Sometimes she has to do her 'act' a few times but her point gets across eventually. Yesterday, no Ruby. Automatically my husband got up, put food in her bowl and that would normally be followed by footsteps...none, nothing, no Ruby. We waited a few minutes and I called her and still nothing. At that time of day her two favorite spots are either in the guest room or our bedroom, opposite ends of the house. I walked to our bedroom, no Ruby while my husband checked the guestroom. Nothing. No dog. I usually keep the laundry room door closed unless I'm using the machines. I had the door open yesterday and about 3:30 I closed it. So you can imagine how shocked I was when I opened the door well after 5:00 and there was my sweet Ruby very happy to see me! But all that time she didn't bark or anything. She really is a good girl, but I wish at times she would 'speak up'. She forgave me by the way! Photo is mine.

Poor Ruby. They can make you feel so bad sometimes just by being so good. I'm glad she has forgiven you.

@JudyEv This is one reason we have no fear of leaving her alone in a rental when we go on vacation. She would never ever bark or do anything 'wrong'.

@AbbyGreenhill What a dear old dog to not make a sound. No wonder you love her so much. If it were Herc, he'd be baaing his head off.

I bet she didn't know what to think. We have to be careful or our kitty will get shut in a closet.

She is afraid of many things, loud noises and slamming doors, and people yelling.

Poor Ruby! We humans feel bad about such things, but thankfully they forgive us as soon as they see our face.

Things like that they have a short memory for thank goodness. I doubt she will ever walk in there again.

@AbbyGreenhill I am sure she will avoid to go there from now on. And now I want to check if Willy the cat is inside our garage or in the garden shed, I have not seen him during all the afternoon.

She isn't a barker, only if someone comes onto our property....or if a leaf blows across the yard!

haha, she must be on a secret date! But then secret date or not, she still feels hungry, so she reaches home for her meal.

Food - she was probably getting worried she would not get it in that laundry room.
