Same old, same old

I'm sorry to be so depressing lately. I keep trying to find better things to write about, but I'm so sad about things going on with my cat that I just can't. My niece checked in a little while ago. The vet is supposed to call me today about my cat, but I called there and she's in surgery for about another hour. So I left a message about how bad things are here. It's gotten so bad for me that I'm so sick to my stomach that I can't eat anything, and when I do try to eat, it just comes back up. Not the way I'd hoped to lose weight. My niece told me that at the hospital where she works, they make fun of her when she talks about one of her own cats being sick. They think it's ridiculous to get all flustered over a pet. We were talking yesterday about how, for us being single women with no children of our own, we get so much love from our cats and so the thought of losing that love is almost terrifying. Well, I'm really sorry. I hate being depressing like this. I'll either find something better to write about or I'll just stick to commenting on what you're writing about. I don't want you to think I've turned into Debbie Downer myself here. I know there are wonderful things happening out there and I'm trying hard not to tune them all out. Claudia

You aren't a debbie downer and shouldnt apologize for being sad/depressed. You have the right to write what you want. And sad or not, i like reading your posts. And i hope the best for your cat. I never understood the love for a pet and then being like family until we got a cat 5 years ago.

Thank you so much, Courtney. Aren't cats wonderful? The love I've always gotten from my cats has gotten me through so much other bad stuff in life so I want to do everything I can for her right now. And thanks so much for saying you like my posts. You have no idea how that has touched me!

I am sorry that you have not heard from the vet yet. I know if and when something happens to my cards I will be devastated. I love my babies. I worry about them all the time. They are part of my family. I talk about them all the time at work to but I am among animals lovers so they all understand. I hope the vet will call you soon so you will know what is going on. It is so difficulty with a fur babies are not well.

This takes so much out of me. I've always loved my cats like nothing else and this is the part of their lives that I dread the most. I'm so glad you understand. Most everyone here has been so understanding, which is good, so I feel like I have someone to talk with.

@Happy2BeMe Ruby is 14 and while I realize that's old, most of my cats have lived to the age of 16 or 17, so I've hoped for a couple of more years with her. Turns out she has a thyroid problem, which can be helped with medication. We're going back to the vet on Wednesday for some treatment and another checkup.

@CRK109 We have all been through it and know how much it hurts. I hope the vet calls you soon. How old is your cat?

Most would react the way you do. Pet is more than a human being for many

That is so true. My cat has never been just an animal to me. She's loving and she seems to know when I need a little snuggle. When she was feeling better, she would always come to bed with me and snuggle. Those are the times that mean so much!

It's natural to focus on the cat that you love when she's in trouble. If it helps to talk about it here, that's fine. Best wishes to you both.

Thank you, Janet. I try so hard not to whine because I also care about all of you here and don't want to turn anyone away. But I also know that if this was happening to someone else, my heart would go out to them, so I can see it from both sides right now.

I finally talked with her and it seems to be a thyroid problem, which is good news. We're going to see her on Wednesday for some treatment and so she can check Ruby over a little more to make sure nothing else is seriously wrong. Fingers crossed! Thanks for being there for me! You're the best! xoxo

I certainly don't mind that you're writing about your worries and I'm sure others don't mind either. I just wish there was something that could be done to turn things around a little for you.

Medication is being delivered later today, so I hope it will begin to help her sooner than later. She's still getting around a little bit but not much.

@CRK109 The cream sounds a really good alternative to pills or whatever.

Doesn't sound good or fun. I hope kitty comes out of the surgery and can come back home to you where you need her!

oh I'm sorry for the miscommunication. My cat is at home with me. The vet was in surgery with another pet. I'm just waiting for her to call me about bloodwork. But thanks for the good wishes!

I know what you are going through... I do the same thing. As hard as you want to try to kick how you feel... your brain has other ideas. I actually took up meditation so that I could learn to control that side of the brain that makes you dwell on things that upset you. I'm into my second month of meditating and it does get a wee bit easier... but it does take time. My heart goes out to you!!

Thank you so much, Shirley, for your very kind words. I know this is part of life, but of course that doesn't make it any easier. Love is love and sadness can sometimes be overwhelming. I do take medication for depression and I try very hard to keep moving and doing things to put my mind on other things. I'm surprised I've been sleeping. People tell me how strong I am. Right now I feel like a big old puddle.
