Afternoon, Ladies!

Here in Manitou, we have a fairly sizable deer population. We see them all over. Sometimes, they even show up right outside our apartment window, grazing on the bushes out front. The coolest thing is when we see them running down the middle of Manitou Avenue in the middle of the day. They make a left and head to the sunken dirt path across the street, where they can easily access the creek. I came across these two ladies this afternoon as I walked home from Safeway. They knew I was there, but kept grazing. They are very used to humans, but will only let you get so close before they take off. I got close enough to take this photo, then moved along so they could eat in peace.

@infatuatedbby - I used to work at a homeless shelter on VA property in Wyoming. A lot of deer lived there on the property. On my overnight shifts, I'd throw fruit in the men's smoking area, then go outside around 3:00 and watch them eat.

That's too bad. It's so cool seeing them. We see them all the time when we're out walking around.

I can see why people want to shoot male bucks. Had it taste great, feeds a family, but look at that. Like heaven on earth and if I ever saw saw someone shoot them. I might have to shoot them myself.

Especially if they are just shooting it for the trophy instead of the meat.

@teamfreak16 Indeed, shooting ladies is just bad one way or another. Big picture wise., you like hunting leave the females and babies alone.

@crossbones27 - Some of these guys will shoot anything because they don't care.

When I lived in Lincolnshire, a hundred miles or so north, you would see lots of deer, but down here all I've seen is muntjac. About the size of a large dog, I think they are escapees from country estates

@teamfreak16 I think they come from China and were brought over for country houses and general showing off!

Oh, thank you. I might've been able to get a couple steps closer, but didn't want them to run away.

When I visited family in Anacortes, WA I saw alot of deer it seemed so unusual as they had no fear of humans even walking right near us

I've stayed at a Bed and Breakfast where they'll come up in the morning and eat out of your hand. That was really cool.

You can get fairly close here. Close enough to take a photo.
