Day 222 Proverbs 20:30 Proverbs 20:30 The blueness of a wound cleanses away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly. You cannot go through life without getting hurt – cuts, scrapes, abrasions of all kinds, caused from a myriad of different objects dig deep into your skin. If left untreated those wounds would fester and cause untold damage to the skin and muscle around it. Instead, when you hurt yourself in such a way that blood pours forth, you clean the wound, until all the dirt and debris that got into the affected area is cleansed away and the blood runs clean. When a wound begins to heal, scabs form – the stripes Solomon referred to – these keep the wound from festering once more. Sin causes spiritual wounds to your soul. Only the stripes Jesus took for you when he went to the cross for your salvation, can cleanse you from the sin that would drag you down and lead you back to where you were before you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord. Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. (KJV) 1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bore our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. Isaiah prophesied the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and how they would wound him, but through those wounds, stripes, everyone is cleansed from the disease of sin which festers in hearts and minds. Peter showed that what Isaiah prophesied, had happened. Your sin was dealt a final blow on the cross when Jesus paid the ransom for it. You are clean once more. You no longer need to live in your sin, letting it fester until amputation is necessary, but you can live with the hope that your sin has been dealt the final blow, and you are cleansed from all the evil in your life before you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord. Don’t let sin fester in your heart and mind. Let the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ cleanse away all evil and bring you into a right relationship to him. Let’s pray: Father, your Word cleanses me from all my sin and sets me free from Satan’s hold over my life. Help me stand on your Word, using it to cleanse away the evil thoughts that would fester and grow if left untouched. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
