I told y'all I forgot Ruby's birthday last week...she has forgiven me by the way! Today is another date that is part of my history - a part I would prefer to forget. I got married the first time on April 19, 1969 - I was 22. Twenty-two year olds are much more nature today! I didn't really know my future husband when we married, since right after we met he started Naval training and from there almost two years in Gitmo...I think we probably only spent 10-12 days together during two different leaves. If only I was as smart then as I am now!!! Anyway, the weather on that day started out sunny and beautiful and by the time my bridesmaids and I were getting our hair done we had severe thunderstorms and hail. It was quite a mess. We got in the cars to head to church the rain stopped but the sky was grey and dull...sort of like the guy I married. Yes, I've said it before and I'll say it again - he was boring. We were two totally different people who lived together as man and wife for almost 10 years - that was our public persona...but it was doomed and finally we made the decision to divorce. But being married to him is part of who I am so I chalk it up to experience! Getting married the second time in 1998 was a far better choice and he's not boring!! Photo form Pixabay

So glad that the second time around is a totally different story. We got married on April 5h and the day was very, very gloomy. But the marriage is still very sunny!

You think 22 is too young? Back then we weren't as mature as 22 year old are today.

@Courtlynn I am 69 going on 100 (ha ha) and I only know some 30 somethings who do nothing but drink and party and leave the kids with the grandparents to babysit - that's why we live 850 miles from family. When I got married I had been working for two years, paying rent to my parents and was mature, but not in regard to me LOL - after all I was a good Catholic girl!

I guess for some that would be good, but I have no desire to do any part of my life over - it's me all of it and w/o one second of I would not be who I am today.

@AbbyGreenhill I was also tired of living at home, with no freedom at all. At least I was able to follow my husband in his business trips and I have seen plenty of different countries.

I was the last of my friends to get married which is another reason I married someone I hardly knew - I was tired of living at home. I got to live in Hawaii for two years so it wasn't all bad.

It sure does since I was very happy alone for 16 years, not looking for a husband - and friends set us up...and the rest is history.

@Happy2BeMe It started off a little rocky as we were/are so different, but we learned to compromise!

I know exactly where he is and what he is doing. He married the woman he cheated on me with - she was preg....they got married the day after our divorce. He worked at the Wall Street Journal in New Jersey before he went in service until he retired. They now live in Maine and he's so fat I hardly recognize him in photos.
