Dadgumit, my mattress is old and doesn't support my back anymore

It's bad enough that I have to replace my clothes, I've been wearing pretty much the same shirts I'd bought in the mid 1990s and they're showing their age but are still wearable. I just need to lose an inch here and there and I'll be fine.
As for that mattress, well the last couple nights my back was so achy trying to lay down on it that I haven't gotten a whole lotta sleep. Today I'll flip that thing again, which will solve the problem for a little while. I flipped it around mid February for the same reason so now I'm wondering if the dang thing is wore out, it's only 12 years old so I'm thinking it should last another few years, shouldn't it? What do you think?
Ok, that photo is of my beautiful Gracie with her kitten Spunky, they started the trio I always talk about. It has nothing to do with the discussion above but I did want to show them off. Gracie was born in 1991 and Spunky was born in 1992.

That is the sweetest picture - so cute!!! I guess it all depends on the mattress quality - some will wear out faster than others. Hubby is more particular about that - his body is more sensitive than mine about where he sleeps - I swear I can sleep on top of rocks .

@rebelann Seriously, I am so exhausted by the end of the day, I hit the pillow and I am OUT!
I just remembered one time we put on one of those textured foam layers on top of the mattress - that seemed to help for a while before actually forking out for another mattress. Yah, eventually we would like to invest in a better quality mattress too.

Thank you
Rocks?? OWWWWWW, that would hurt.
Yeah, people with bad backs usually have a harder time laying down flat which is why I'm going to price quality recliners to compare with mattresses, maybe I'll sleep better that way. Who knows, right?

What beautiful animals! No wonder you wanted to show them off.
I would think that 12 years would not wear out a mattress if it was a good brand but things are not made to last in this day and age. We used to put a board under the mattress for extra support, do you think that would help?
I have a mattress I have been turning every couple of weeks. I found a little new life in it when I turned it from top to bottom instead of grabbing the side and turning it. That way you get to use all 4 quarters of the mattress instead of just half.

Thank you, they were sweeties.
You're right, nothing is made to last as it should. I usually flip mine completely over as well as turn it and it did work for a month or so. Trouble is I'm not gettin any younger and boy is that damn thing heavy.

I think you should buy a new mattress. Your mattress is very old. You should buy a medium-firm mattress because medium-firm mattress provides full support our back, and give relief from back pain.

I do not blame you if you hijacked your own post to bring your pets in. It is your post and you can do what you want with it
And as your mattress you better invest in a new one rather having to repair your back later

That sounds uncomfortable. I don't think they make mattresses as long lasting as they used to be.

Thank you, they are not with me anymore, Gracie lived 12 years and Spunky lived 17 years. I miss them.
Mine don't look that good anymore mostly because I've really gained in the lower half of my body so that the shirts are always too tight below the waist yet fit just fine above it. Drives me nuts that clothes manufacturers never make shirts for women like me who are shaped like a pear.
