Deciding between grapes and raisins

I had a hard time deciding between grapes and raisins when I was in the supermarket. Both are essentially the same thing, and I do love both. The difference is that in term of price and enjoyment. Grapes that are cold are very nice to have in hot weather. Raisins are cheaper, lighter and easier to add into cereal or oat.

This is not yet the season for raisins, we can only have raisins now, or expensive grapes imported from South Africa or Chile.

@LadyDuck Some of the grapes are really sweet, and juicy. It depends on my luck!

@LadyDuck we have grapes and raisins all year round, because all are imported from other countries. The difference is always in pricing and varieties. US grapes are slightly more expensive than those from South Africa.

@scheng1 US grapes are also more tasty, those coming from South Africa are "watery". We have local raisin from the end of August until the end of October.

Price of grapes depends on where it comes from. Our country imports more than 90% of all the food consumed, and definitely 100% of the grapes. US grapes cost slightly more than grapes from South Africa. It also depends on the variety. However, we have grapes all year round, since we import from many countries.

This will not be a hard decision for me because I am not very interested in them. But if I have to choose, I have to pick grapes because at least they are juicy.

What kind of grapes do you prefer? The red, green or black ones? The black ones are generally sweeter than the red or green, but then it really depends on the variety.

@scheng1 Perhaps the black ones. As you said, they are sweeter. But here the red and green grapes can be very sweet, too. I like the seedless grapes.

@youless The red and green ones are hit and miss. Sometimes they are so sweet, and then when I go back to buy another pack, the grapes are not sweet.

And what about healthwise? Feel like the grapes would win that battle

No difference in nutrients value. The only difference between grapes and raisins is the water content. Grapes are heavier, so it costs more because it takes more gas to transport it from the country of origin to our country.

I prefer to eat grapes. Since I was child, I never like eating raisins. I think I am weird in this sense.

@Shavkat I like both, though if given the difference in price, I will have to buy raisins.

@Shavkat I do not like raisins in salad! The taste is rather odd, since salad are creamy and salty in nature, and raisin is sweet. I like raisins in ice cream though.

@scheng1 It is good to buy the raisins in terms of low cost. All my family members love raisins in salad except me.

@JudyEv yes, the choice is clear in your case. I think only the seasons will play a part in your choice. I wonder if you have grapes for sale in winter. If not, you will have to settle for raisins.

Same too. If I have to choose one, I will choose raisin because of the lower price and lighter in weight. I do not drive, so I have to carry the heavy loads home!

Oh yes, raisin chocolate is my favorite too. I like raisins in ice cream too! I like grapes when the weather is hot and I am very thirsty. This is something that raisins just can't compete.
