The Final Leg to Ohio

United States
April 21, 2017 11:00am CST
It wasn't the perfect day to go, it drizzled or poured rain the whole trip but I made it and in less than 12 hours. I don't know what eats the time, I stopped several times but not for long. Through the mountains there was heavy fog and I saw for the first time light up speed limit signs. They are great! They are on both sides of the lanes and the speed limit can be adjusted for the weather. In the fog it went from 75 MPH to 40 MPH. at different levels. Even at 40 it seemed too fast! The blossoming trees along the way were fantastic. Dogwood, pink and white are wild all over the hills and cut out areas. Redbud trees are such a deep pink they look purple. They were everywhere, fully bloomed. I saw huge apple trees in full bloom and some white blossomed trees. As for plants, lilac and wisteria were everywhere when driving through the towns. I haven't been in the Midwest in April for six years so have missed this blooming season completely. My son was there to greet me when I arrived and my other son came over shortly after My giant peace lily took up a lot of room but it survived and it looks great in the house. Now to furnish it with the bare essentials.

@DianneN Yes, I do, My son bought a small house next door to him, I've invested in it and I use it when I'm up north and he uses it for guests when I'm not.

Are you moving or visiting? I was born in Ohio and I miss it so much! It is paradise to me, all the green and the flowers, the nice people, the completely different lifestyle. I hope you enjoy it. I call it God's country.

It is God's country! I will live here from May through December every year and live in Florida for the winters. Unless I don't like all the upheaval of it. This will become my permanent home because it's where my kids are. I was in Florida for my husbands health and my mom's declining years (which I fully expected to be another five to ten at least) but they have both passed on.

@Jeanniemaries I moved here (Arizona) from Ohio long ago to visit my brother and ran out of money. Met my ex and got married, had kids, 20 years later divorced and moved back to Ohio. Five wonderful years there during which I lost my dad there and my mom in Florida, I had a beautiful house in Springfield. Then I moved back to Arizona because my first grandchild was expected and I've been here for 4 years. Never a day goes by that I don't miss Ohio. Sometimes, looking out at the ugly desert and suffering the heat, I even cry for it. But I am with my children and grandchild and you know how much that means. Maybe I will get back there before I die.

@dragon54u it's hard not to be able to live where you want. I love Florida, but Ohio too. So it's great to be back. I know you wouldn't trade spending time with your family.

Just until January, then I'll go back to my home in Florida. I have to furnish this one so I can stay here most of the year. All my stuff is in Florida. I plan to winter in Florida every year, but my family is here and have a new grandchild on the way.

@Jeanniemaries I was in a second hand store yesterday looking for candles to melt for my fire starters and beads that I use in my art (no beads but lots of candles) and I was awed by the amount of furniture and really good furniture that was available on the cheep. I loved one comfy living room chair but I didn't take it because my husband would have a fit - we don't need more, we need to get rid of some... Be sure to look in the second hand places for furniture, you might be surprised - I was... Have fun with your kids and grands for the summer.

@Jeanniemaries My move felt like ripping off a huge bandage. It happened so fast that I didn't have time to think about it and, for me, that was the best way. I hope this new chapter of your life goes very well for you! xoxo

My husband is certainly missed. It's a big decision on my part, making a move. Something you have faced already and did well.

I enjoy every day, no matter what I'm doing. Ohio is state, one of the 50 that make up our country.
