The Alligator Took His Time

My sister and her husband were returning from Jackson yesterday when they saw this unusual sight. A young alligator was crossing the highway and it took its time. I guess it thought that it owned the road. I must say that this is a first for my family. Maybe in Florida we might expect this kind of sighting, but certainly not here. I wonder where it's mother was? What is the most unusual animal that has walked in front of you while you were driving?

Wow, now that's something I know I'll never see around here, its way too hot and dry for those kritters. Do momma gaters take care of their young?

Ahhh, well I do agree they are scary @Tampa_girl7 but I figured since you live out that way you'd know more about them than I would.

He definitely is a 'young-un' @Tampa_girl7 . I've just had the usual: birds, cats, dogs, rabbits, squirrels and armadillos.

Wow that is just too cool. We don't have anything unusual. The only things that have crossed my path are moose, bears, squirrels, foxes, coyotes, rabbits, deer, ducks and all their little ducklings, raccoons, groundhogs, porcupines, cats, dogs and I think that would be about it. Oh I can't forget skunks you don't want hit one of those.

My parents have encountered bears when we lived in Michigan. We have black bears in Mississippi, but I have never seen one in the road.

Nothing unusual that I can recall. That alligator does look as if it is taking its time.

That is an awesome sight. From a safe distance! Last year while through South Dakota's Black Hills, some buffalo in the road caused traffic to stop and wait.

I grew up in Florida so that's been seen a few times lol. Once when I lived in Georgia, my husband and I saw a beaver "running" along side the highway. We were so confused as to what it was doing there.

This has never happened to me while on the road. However, one night I saw a large black scorpion moving on my floor. That is very rare for Pennsylvania. I did not know that Jackson, Mississippi had alligators.

What a great picture you took of the little guy. It is an unusual site. I've hade cows, turtles, ducks, chicken but nothing really unusual.

Now, that was a great sight to see. Just ordinary animals have walked in front of me. I did see my first black squirrel, a few years ago, in a Chicago suburb far from ours that is full of them.

That's surely uncommon. Though if something like appear on road here, then I am sure that alligator will not visit the road again. Though it is exciting to see something like this.

It's kind of cute. We don't have crocs or alligators in my part of the world...the only animal I see crossing the road is rabbits, foxes and sometimes rats

A bear ran in front of us on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was very quick and gone in an instant.
