Forgive and Forget !!

Why do we christians say forgive an forget , when we know these are impossible words to live by....i can forgive, but i cant forget

I thought it was mentioned in the Bible, but apparently it isn't. However, it's a phrase that originated with some Christian philosophers. I think the idea with "forgive and forget" is that you forgive, and then move on. You don't keep bringing up how the other person wronged you.

This is not the statement of a fact but something a Christian should aspire to. At least I think so.

I've never heard a Christian say to forget. We can't forget, but we can forgive with help from God.
