Do you enjoy baseball?

Watching baseball is a tradition long standing in my family. My father absolutely loved baseball and was a diehard Boston Red Sox fan. When my sister got married, my father was so disappointed that she married a Chicago White Sox fan. They really liked one another but they argued sports quite a bit! lol When Dad passed away, Mom continued watching baseball without him. During the hot summer, she would sit out on the porch and would listen to the game on radio while she played solitaire to pass the time. I've been to Fenway many times to see games and always enjoyed that. I used to bring my nephew to Boston as often as I could and we always had the best time up there! Tonight, I'm carrying on the tradition. I'm watching the game while playing a few games online. Sometimes, I just have it on in the background. Many times I've picked up a book to read with the game on TV and when I hear all the screaming I look up to see what's happened. And at other times, my phone will ring and it's my nephew giving me the score! Do you enjoy baseball? Claudia

I have been a Chicago Cubs fan since 1967 and next weekend we will be rivals. The Cubs are going to Boston. Goo Cubs. I don't care for the White Sox either lol.

The Philippines is Basketball-crazy country. Occasionally I watch American baseball on cable. It's a slow game and it seems fans of the game are more interested in the statistics of the game rather than the game itself.

Italians are crazy for football (what American calls soccer), but nobody likes baseball.

People really do enjoy the statistics here, but I think that's just something to talk about while waiting for something to happen on the field! lol As you say, it is a slower paced game than other sports.

I don't really enjoy sports but my mom's side of the family were real baseball fans. Her dad was good enough that several teams tried to recruit him but that was around 1916 and players had bad reputations. His dad said if he joined a team he would disown him. My mom's brother, Bob, was with the Cardinals despite being born with 3 of his fingers deformed--they ended at the first knuckle but he was a monster pitcher! Back then sports figures did not make much and he quit when he could not support his family. So Mom loved baseball. She called it the thinking man's sport and it is true, it takes a lot of strategy. I sure do miss her. Now no one in my generation watches it and her generation is all gone.

@CRK109 Yes and if he'd joined today he would be a millionaire! I find it ironic that back in that day society looked upon sports figures as low class and not worth paying more than a pittance. Today we venerate them and they earn more per year than most people will in a lifetime. They still behave as they did in my Granpa's day but society is no longer ashamed of such behavior, they reward it. Strange and stranger, the way society develops. Thanks for listening, I found a lot of pleasure and fond memories typing out my family's story.

What a fascinating background of baseball in your family! When you mentioned your Uncle Bob's finger deformity, the first thing that came to mind was pitching! So sad that he couldn't support the family. Just imagine, if he had succeeded in any small way, you might have a family member in the major leagues today!

When I lived in CT, I worked for an insurance agency that covered a hockey team, so I was very much into the sport. I went to all the games, learned to sing "O Canada" with the rest of them and learned to enjoy all the fighting, too! But since I moved back home, even though we have the farm team of the Boston Bruins (Providence Bruins here), no one I know is that into hockey, so I've never gone to any games.

Well I haven't watched it in years and the only baseball game I ever went to live was with my Grandfather when I was a child. It was the St Louis Cardinals, not sure what the other team was. But used to play softball and baseball when I was a kid. I enjoy it.

I love baseball, and I'm a huge Yankees fan. Living in Florida, I spent many years visiting the Yankees' spring training games (first in Ft. Lauderdale, and later in Tampa). I also used to fly from Florida to New York City about a dozen times a year just to watch Yankees games at Yankee stadium. And yes, that ALWAYS included the series when the Red Sox were in town (could the Yankees/Red Sox be the most intense and hated rivalry in all sports?). I will be carrying on the tradition with my own two children this year. For Memorial Day weekend, I am taking them to New York City for the very first time, and we will be going to all three Yankees home games against the Orioles while we're there. I even splurged on the final game of the series and bought tickets right behind home plate!

@CRK109 I haven't been to the new Yankee stadium yet either. It will be a first for me, so I'll be just as excited as my kids! I've probably been to the old Yankee stadium over a 100 times!

How exciting for all of you! I'd been to the old Yankee Stadium but never the new one. There is nothing like the thrill of being in the ball park live and seeing those games! Have the BEST time with your children! I'm so jealous!
