The Baptistery of St. John Pisa.

This perhaps is my most favourite building within the field of Miracles. It is the baptistery beside the cathedral a separate building to that of the cathedral. Many years ago before anyone could go into the church they would be baptised outside of the church. It was built in 1153 and still looks magnificent today a bit like an icing model that should be on top of a cake. It is made of marble and inside there is a massive font with a bronze figure of St John the Baptist. I think perhaps The horse would be bowled over by the acoustics inside the building. Every half an hour or so a guide will demonstrate the echo effects of the building which is quite stunning. If you would like to listen to the sound effects you can hear it on Youtube, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQAKswg_ux4 This place is well worth a visit.

The horse has a sister who lives in Perugia, it's not so far, he could visit the day he goes to see his sister. I agree that the echo effects are amazing.

@garymarsh6 I agree, Italy is a wonderful place for ancient sites, palaces, churches, mansions. I was reading two days ago that opening an old oven in Ercolanum they have found inside a whole bread and they have been able to remake the original recipe as made in 79 A.D.. I have saved the video.

@LadyDuck OH brilliant Anna. That kind of thing really impresses me. I loved Herculaneum in fact I think I preferred it to Pompeii.

There are some beautiful tiles on the floor and some art but mainly it is a religious building although now a museum. I guess they could still use it as a baptism venue.

@garymarsh6 I recall reading that baptisms were all done outdoors. I guess if you've not got a river handy!

This does look like a place I would like to visit. It kind of reminds me of Oxford's Radcliffe Camera.

It's a wonder. Is it being used still or it has been made a monument?

The whole of the Field of Miracles has World Heritage site status. It is within the old city walls. Although I dare say if they wanted to they could still use it for baptisms but it is regarded as a museum,

Fabulous architecture and over 800 years old. They knew how to built then and it was all done by hand without modern tools.

I like this. The design is really like something out of fairytale. I think the architect must be very proud of his work if he looks down from heaven now.
