Apologies for barely looking in on Mylot in the last few weeks. The science fiction convention over Easter was wonderful though also very busy and exhausting. I also had a lot to catch up on after I returned. I still hope to write up my full convention notes but for now I’ll summarize the chaos since my return. Wednesday 19th April 2017 After returning to the job club, which was nice, as I met lots of my Preston friends again, While there I learned that the lady who runs talks there is considering hiring me to cover for her in the Summer for which she I going to pay me for six weekly events. I have an interview with her about it on Friday. I later had my first meeting with my welfare advisor. At the convention my talk on pub signs had attracted attention from a publisher who has invited me to prepare my text for potential publication through him. I told welfare of this and also of the possible speaking hire too. I expected him to be delighted but he was very dismissive, calling it all ‘not proper work or job search’. He plans to grill me soon for being out of work for four months when I am ‘so clever’. There was a terrible sense of threat about that. I finally got some travel expenses out of him for recent courses too. Thursday 20th April 2017 A further visit to the job club and starting to prepare my talk text as a publishable booklet. It could take weeks. Friday 21st April 2017 I paid some vital bills, and went to a long meeting with the other university volunteers to shortlist our movie selections for the film festival. We are now down to a quarter of the movie under consideration though I still have some to watch. I then went to the community centre’s new public event venue, a few doors up the road from the main regular location and a very nice place. We had a very good talk on railways in wartime, which I’ll review separately. Saturday And Sunday 22nd -23rd April 2017 Routine stuff, shopping, laundry, and preparing for my potential book deal too. Finally, I got back on here. Arthur Chappell

You have been busy, though that welfare advisor sounds like a real wet blanket. I'm glad that the convention went well.

From the job centre's point of view, I suppose that this sort of work isn't enough. Is there anyway you can use your talents to create your own business as a public speaker, or some such?
