White Princess is Surprisingly Good

I had some spare time this afternoon and decided to watch two episodes of the White Princess. First, let me say, I think Philipa Gregory plays fast and loose with history but in spite of that, this is an excellent series. I have to forget everything I know about history and just get into the story as if I didn't know better but it certainly is a good watch. Most people probably don't know the history so can really watch this without seeing the issues. If you are looking for something new to get into, this mini-series which is scheduled to be 8 episodes. Two have already been broadcast. I am looking forward to episode 3 which should see the birth of Prince Arthur, son of King Henry and his Queen Elizabeth.

This sounds very interesting. I have read a lot of her books but haven't got hold of the white princess. I've read the white queen and am wanting to read the white princess too for a long time.

I have not read the White Queen but as I said, I am not a fan of her manipulation of history, but in the movie format I can forget it lol

I have never heard of this show, but the names that you mention make me believe that it is set during the Wars of he Roses. Henry VII married Elizabeth of York and their first child was Arthur.

@BelleStarr The Wars of the Roses are a part of my history because it was between the Houses of York and Lancaster. Since I was born in the County Palatine of Lancaster it is local history to me. I knew of their son Arthur, but do not know why he never became King. Henry VII was succeeded by Henry VIII. It would interesting to me to watch this mini series, although I am unsure as to whether I can acquire access. I am now curious about which civil wars this author covered. We have had several in England over the centuries.

@BelleStarr That seems logical because early deaths were not uncommon in those days.

Yes, the books by Phillipa Gregory are about the War of the Roses, the Red Queen is Margaret Beaufort,, White Queen is Elizabeth Woodville and White Princess Elizabeth York. The Lady of the Rivers is about Jaquetta of Luxembourg. It is all a series called The Cousins War. The basic historical facts are good, the particulars not so much. But enjoyable none the less

@BelleStarr Belle Star watches Starz? Who would have ever thunk it! haha Thanks for letting me know. I don't think I have the Stars network, but who knows, maybe I do and don't even know it! I'll have to check it out and see. Apparently, I'm finding out that I have a lot of cable network channels that I never knew I had all these years!

I didn't know there was such a series. I like watching historical series even when they do play fast and loose with history.
