LGBT Meeting Day #1

Banks, Oregon
April 23, 2017 8:10pm CST
Had our first ever meeting for our local communities LGBT Club it was only 6 of us in total, but this was mainly a group for those of whom will be planning events to get to know each other better, and to discuss when would be a good time to hold meetings. One of the ladies whom is about my mom's age i actually know, but i had no idea she was now lesbian, she used to be married to a man i had did plays with at our local community theatre, she is a really wonderful lady, her daughter is actually transitioning from Male to Female, we shared some stories about theatre memories, and about mutual people we knew. Then there was two guys whom are actually dating they seem so different from one another, but sometimes it is those that are so different whom make such a great couple, both come from such diverse backgrounds one in hispanic and was raised as a Jehova Witness, his family was really not accepting of his coming out, but they came around slowly, he actually has two adopted kids he has from a previous relationship. The other guy works as a funeral director, what a sad job, he shared a story about being the funeral director for a teenager whom had commited suicide after being bullied for being gay, i almost broke into tears as he shared the very sad story. Then another guy whom i know, he is actually also in a relationship his partner did not want to come though, he is really such a nice guy, makes me sad he is in a relationship as i really could see myself dating a guy like him. But being a friend is the next best thing, we have alot of in common and i am looking forward to getting to know him, his boyfriend, and all of our other group members alot better. The last group member who showed up is just a wonderful ally, she had two gay dad's so she deffinitley knows all about the struggles, and about life as a gay ally. It really was a great time we are already planning future plans, i am excited to have a new group of friends!

That is neat that you have a group like that to belong to. My friend in High School had no one to help him. He married a women and they had a son and when he feel in love with another man. His wife gave him their son because he was a good father.

Yes i feel bad for those whom have no one to share with, the lady in our group is so brave she is in her late 50s after a 30 year marriage and a bad divorce she made the brave decision to come out as lesbian, and she is so very supportive of her daughter whom is transitioning to become a male.

Congrats to you! Six people is a great core number for a group. Folks can really talk in that size.

Yes it really was a great discussion, we shared are stories, and joked around, had ourselves a meal, and made general small talk.... we are thinking of maybe planning a fun BBQ when the weather gets better at a local park!
