Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. Is there any truth to this old proverb? Are you able to do that? Does it work? I usually go to bed around midnight, is that early? What is early for you? I get out of bed around 8 AM, is that early? What is early for you? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Since it is 11:40 PM, I better get ready for bed as I don't want to go to bed late. Good night!

@1hopefulman I do not think going to bed at mid night is early.I do not have an exact time for going to bed.But I rise early.

It is very subjective, isn't it?

My mom sang that song to me when I was a little kid and she always put us to bed at 8pm which became a habit to me even in my 20s. My sleeping habit changed only in my 30s and still I go to bed early, i think. My sister, who is an OB doctor told us that every child should sleep early and even have a nap at specific times of the day because there are parts in the body and even in the brains that develop during sleep at specific times of the day especially at night. I usually wake up at 6am. 8am is not that bad. I consider 9 late.

I have heard many times that a good routine of going to bed early and getting up early is good for us. I'm glad to see that you have a good routine. I'm well within the 7-9 hours of daily sleep that experts recommend, Sleep well!

Early in the night is before 11 PM and early in the morning is surely not 8 AM. I go to bed around 10:30 PM and I wake up at 6 AM.

I think the body clock differs. I will go to bed around midnight if I do not have to work the next morning. I think after I retire fully from work, I will likely sleep after midnight. There is a kind of beauty and peace at 2 am in the morning.

Yes, there is, but then it is hard to wake up early. There is something good about going to bed the same day one wakes up. I should already start to get ready for bed as I have been very good about going to bed before midnight.

@scheng1 I have no problem staying up late till the wee hours of the morning but then I'll stay in bed all day. It is a constant struggle to get to bed at a decent hour. But I'm working on it. Last night I was in bed at 11:30 and I will try to keep to that every night from now on. I was up at 7 this morning and I like it.

@1hopefulman Getting to bed the same time every day is easy. Getting up in the morning is not so easy. There are some retirees here who wake up at an unearthly hour of 4 am, and they will go for morning exercise before going for breakfast.

For 30 years I went to bed at 10pm and got up at 6am to go to work. Now I have the same hours as you. Around 12 midnight to around 8am. It's my body's ideal schedule.

As a child that saying was drummed into me so as a young adult I was in the habit of being a morning person, but when I married, the late husband was a night owl. He NEVER went to bed before 3 am. Gradually over the years, I started drifting in that direction, so now I would, if circumstances allowed stay up hours past midnight, but if I did that now somebody I feed would get awfully hungry! Also I meet friends for golf in the morning 2 or 3 times a week. So my rule is to get up at least 8 hours after I went to bed, whenever that might have been. My internal clock usually wakes me up right about then, too.

So you need about 8 hours of precious sleep! I think we should always go to bed the same day we awoke and so no later than midnight unless there are special circumstances.

Well, one is yes, one is no, and one is questionable. Have you tried to see what happens if you go to bed at 11 and get up at 7? Maybe you are just not early enough?

I generally go to bed soon after my kids are asleep. By 9 o'clock I am usually under the blankets, reading a book for a little and going to sleep. I try not to go to bed much later than that, because I know I'll be up early the next morning. I'm usually up around 6.
