I have weird nicknames...

Amburguesa is one of them, though it hasn't been used in several years. It was given to me by an old friend's boyfriend. He said my name sounded like hamburger in spanish... Amber is my name and Amburguesa is hamburger in spanish. Then there's onionhead and green bean. I don't remember exactly who gave me which name, but my parents gave me those nicknames. One, because I had a big head... and the other? Because I loved green beans growing up. (still do). In fact, the only non food related nickname I have was given to me by my aunt, and is Amberlina. If I am not mistaken, Lina means light in Spanish? Or maybe I am mistaken.. either way.. She nicknamed me Amberlina because my (maiden) middle name is Lynn (yes without the E). Soooo... Were you given any uncommon nicknames ? Oh and my sister called me Boufant when I was little... due to my hair... of course I hated when she called me that..

LiƱa means sparks in Spanish. I think that all nicknames are uncommon, my family called me "ducky", well they still do, because I had a baby duck as pet when I was a kid. My mother often call me "Tittina", that means nothing at all, but I think she likes the sound.

Oh okay, thank you for the translation. My Spanish is non-existent anymore. "Ducky" is kind of a cute nickname.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I am a bit embarrassed when they call me ducky in a public place.

Yeah, but I'm not telling. Only my husband knows, and he never says it because I hated it that much.

@ScribbledAdNauseum It was only family, and mostly when I was young. They also called me Mandy a lot, which I stopped allowing when I hit teen years. They still called me Mandy.. but I got over it as I got older. Nobody really calls me that now.

Eek! I was no fan of "Onion Head." but of course what do you do when it's your parents calling you that? Atleast no one calls you by the nickname now.

Your nicknames are quite cute I've had some nicknames growing up too, and are still used until now. Usually they are shortcuts of my name... Maan, Marianne, Yan to name a few

My littlest nephew couldn't say Auntie Elizabeth when he was tiny and pronounced it Auntie Liftabus instead. That stuck, but only with the three of them.

awww that is just adorable!!! My nephew, when he was little, couldn't pronounce Amber. I became "Am-i-you" for years and years.

It always seems the nicknames given by siblings don't seem to mesh well. Interesting nicknames. I only have one, Tootsie. I haven't used it since I was in 4th grade, many many years ago.

I think my brother might have also called me boufant, or one similar. I can't quite remember. Yes, and while normally siblings bond after they turn into adults? My sister and I are cordial but distant with one another. Tootsie is a cute nickname. It makes me think of what some people in my family call my aunt. Tootie is what my aunt in law has always called my aunt....

@just4him Tootie was a nickname based off of another nickname. My aunt's Christian name is Ellen but she's been Ducie since she was 2 years old. While I love my blood sister, I consider my best friend as a true sister.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I knew a Tootie once. I'm thinking that was her name, though, not a nickname. I've never been close to my siblings either.

I was called skittles in middle school by friends because i always brought candy to school for myself and friends and skittles was very popular. One of my friends calls me C-baby, and shes Kt-baby as her name is Katie. And another calls me barney and i call her babybop. :-) Then of course the relationship nicknames.. princess, babygirl, wifey. Aha. My middle name is lynn too. How cool.

Cute nicknames! Only one of my friends ever gave me a nickname... everyone else ? we just called each other by our given names. My best friend was going to be named Amber though and I was going to be named Nicole (her name) but our parents changed their minds... We've always thought it was kind of cool that we could've been named differently. Lynn spelled without the E? I was named Lynn after my mom's middle name of Lynne, which she got because of her aunt Lynda. My dad, however, was the one who filled out the birth certificate and he spelled it without the E.

I can think of cute nicknames for them when they are small but, when they grow up it's tough. Siblings always have the weirdest nicknames for their sisters and brothers.

Yes, I agree about when they are small. My niece? she's 10 (going on 11... going on 25 lol) and I have called her "shenanigans" and "mae mae" (her middle name is Mae, like her mom's) and even "Nation." I have no idea why I came up with Nation... I can't remember what I called my sister or brother when I was little...

The only nickname I have is JJ. When I was little I could say my name right so I would say JJ. I will only allowed my family to call that now. My mother's middle name is Lynne.

@ScribbledAdNauseum - I guess it's better than having something embarrassing as a nickname.
