The annual storm known as Kal Baishakhi in this region hit southern Bengal last Sunday evening. It uprooted trees, broke branches, blew away roofs, shattered electric lines. A tree fell on a car and the person sitting in it was killed. I was about to go out on my bike when my friend from the town came. He had to spend an hour waiting for the storm to pass. Whenever there is a storm electricity goes away. It was difficult to have a good sleep without fans. There was no water in our water tank. We ran our generator but it is not powerful enough to pull up water from 850 feet below surface. Well after 24 hours the electricity has been restored and our life is back on track.

Sounds like when a tropical storm hits the islands.

Yes, I live in a tropical region, just a little north of the Bay of Bengal and we get this storm every year at this time.
