Do you know how to swim? Do you think it is a valuable skill?

I am of the mindset that everybody should know how to swim. Even if you aren't a water lover, it is a skill everyone should have, should you be in a situation where you have to use it. I have always loved the water, and have been swimming since I was young. Not only is it important to know it is also great exercise.

@snowy22315 Here in Switzerland? The lakes are too cold and I am allergic to the chlorinated water, so I cannot use a public pool.

I love swimming and learned it from a very young age. I usually go to the beach on Sundays to have a nice swim. And as you said it indeed is a very good exercise

Some people are afraid of the water or don't enjoy it. My mother isn't a water person, and one of my nephews doesn't really care for the water, but his brother is on the swim team.

I am a self taught swimmer, so I don't know all the different ways to swim. But I know how to float and swim more than enough that I would be able to use it in a bad situation. Are you a pool, ocean, or lake swimmer?

I prefer lake swimming, but I will swim anywhere. The only thing I am not really crazy about is indoor pools..but I have seen some in apartment buildings that look OK.

@snowy22315 I am landlocked so I am all about lakes! Although pools do the trick when lake water is too cold/frozen.

I do know how to swim. I took swimming classes as a kid. It definitely is good exercise. It is a good skill to know even if it's not something that you like doing.

It's a great skill to learn and a great exercise not unless you don't go near any kind of body of water or not in a high risk flood prone area, not healthy, dont travel by boat, yes if incase you can't help travelling by sea and do not know how to swim then might as well tag along some kind of floatation device all the time

Even if you aren't near a body of water, a pool will do.

When I first moved here I was in the water all the time..I don't go in as much now. It just doesn't have the appeal it once did..although I still like it of course.

you are quite right. One should know swimming. I have been telling my daughter to learn swimming. She was telling about her sinus problem. Even my son does not know swimming. Both are now in U.S. I really fell afraid whenever they go to beaches or near a swimming pool.

They can learn easily enough..even if they never love the water they might be able to help someone else..however, trying to save someone by swimming is the last thing they need to do. Throw, row..go!

I am of the same skill level as AK. My mother never learned to swim and has made it to a ripe old age. Her philosophy is avoid going near water.

Well kind of swim is better than nothing. i usually swim a couple of times a week in the summer. It is the main exercise I do, since I am in a lake community it is pretty easy to do.

I don't know how to swim as we don't have river or a lake nearby , also we don't have a swimming pool where I can learn it. Swimming is essential one should know it as who knows we may need it in future.

I was swimming from a very young age but I think that I have lost my strength. I really need to build that us. I'm not sure how long I would be able to tread water anymore and I remember taking a life saving course where you were timed! Even then it was hard. I wonder how long I could do it now??

Swimming is much better and more fun than body building and it shapes your figure beautifully as a result. Most people learn how to swim as children. I learned later in life, but I enjoy it very much.
