Snow and Sunshine in April

Today I took my continental colleagues to our factory in Bradford. It was a bright sunny day but I knew it would be cold and that we'd be driving over the southern Pennines and that there was a chance that we might get snow. We were leaving from sea level (on the Mersey estuary) and heading up about 400 m altitude. I know, you're maybe thinking that's not a lot but it's enough to cause significant drops in temperature. Saddleworth Moor was completely clear. In fact the whole drive over was plagued only by traffic and not by snow. About two hours later we looked out of the window of the meeting room and it was snowing quite heavily. It's nearly the end of April. That's totally crazy. The snow didn't settle at all as it was much too warm, but it was quite a surprise to see it. Glorious sunshine and a little patch of snow - all in all a classic bit of British weather.

Not at all. It's the same in the south of Germany. The saying goes: April Macht, was er will. = April does what it wants.

I do wish we had a more defined 4 seasons in the UK, one where there's a bit of heat as well as a good icy blast at the opposite ends of the spectrum, about 180days apart.

@boiboing. No, the exams haven't started yet - that's when this fickle climate makes its contrary ways known...

Most of WA seems to have just summer and winter. Autumn and spring just blend in at the beginnings and ends.

No snow here, thankfully, but we had some really cold temps yesterday, and today is near 80!

Well no snow in Miami. Just imagine if there was snow. There's lots of sunshine and that's probably why so many visit the destination. Have a great evening.

Typically British - just like four seasons in one day is typically Melbourne in Australia.
