Infant Water

Baby Water Formula

Babies now need special water to drink? I never knew. Or as i'm thinking, it's a brilliant marketing ploy by some water company to make parents paranoid about the water they give to their child. Big props and kudos for also putting a baby on the label. As a person living in California, where we have some of the strictest water and environmental laws around, I don't buy into this baby water gimmick. People are told and advised not to drink tap water, unless you have a water filter system attached. Most of my drinking water is bought from a water dispenser that double filters the water, practically all of them do. All of the water sold in California has to be filtered the same way regardless if it's infant water or "adult" water. I asked my GF who works with babies to pre-school children, what kind of water the kids get at her work place and she said its basically the same water that I buy at the stores. Only they have their water delivered to them by the water company. The only thing I can see being unique to the infant water is if they added something, but then if they did, wouldn't that deem it a bit unnatural? I know there's different types of water, but one geared to infants only? It's a business, marketing plow to make money, thats all I see. Photograph- Taken/Owned by me, Plethos

Normally I would say this was an unconscionable way to take advantage of new parents. But have you heard about the water in Flint, Michigan? Children were brain damaged from the lead in the water over the years. And Michigan has laws regarding water--it's just that greedy public officials decided to cut corners and line their own pockets and the hell with the kids. There are other places with some pretty unhealthy water that contains heavy metals and pollutants. I never bought that baby water when my granddaughter was born 3.5 years ago but I do filter all her water through my Brita. Mostly because the water here in Phoenix tastes so nasty but also from fear of pollutants from crap seeping down into the aquifer and thus our drinking water.

@Plethos Oh, I get it now. Yes, they'll do anything for the almighty dollar. It's up to consumers to use our common sense and know when we're getting ripped off and made fools of!

yes i know of michigan. but the thing is, the infant water is the same as the filtered water, not marked for infants. theres no difference between them that i saw, or at least what was on the label. thats why i say its a marketing ploy.

Its because someone wrote an article without researching why water needs to be boiled. It kills the bacteria in formula cans.

LMFAO! Yes, there is no difference in those waters, Plethos! I MIGHT drink a bottle of water if I can't find a water fountain here, but the water where I live is pulled from the Ozark Aquifer level more than 500 feet below the surface. People who live in the city might buy bottled water here if they don't bother checking the water quality, but those of us raised here already know we have good water. As a kid on the farm, we owned a private well. I remember dad having it re-drilled when I was 9 or 10 years old. It seems like dad had it drilled 520 feet below the surface.

@Plethos Well, honestly, city folk can be rather strange, but so can some of them foreign people, too.... (You know the kind I mean, right? giggling my tush off!) Being Evil has always worked out well for me! I especially like it when idiots start waving the cross around and muttering what they think are phrases from the Bible! (They are more likely to call a devil from misspeaking the Biblical verses than I would be if I prayed for one to appear! LOL!) How have you been doing lately? I haven't seen you around. You been gone?

I live in Virginia. But the water here was good when my kids were babies, so I never used that.

theres even areas here in california where the ground water is better than the filtered water ! the palm springs region comes to mind. theres is mostly from a deep underground water system that is naturally filtered by the earth.

Lucky me! I did not know until I read this post that all this existed. A zillion years ago, when I had my babies, I gave them boiled water with anise or cinnemon. They survived.

@Plethos I never gave my children infant food in jars. It was all prepared by me.

I have seen these jugs of baby water in our stores for a good many years. I wouldn't buy them.

We always get jugs of water from the store and do not use tap water as our water is well water.

getting water from a store or a water filtering system is still cheaper in the long run. i once thought about a water filtering system for the tap water at home. but california water is so hard, that id have to replace the filter at least every 2 weeks, and the good filters aint cheap.

@Plethos Yeah we looked into filters and it was ridiculous so we decided we will just deal with the well water for most things and buy bottle water for cooking and drinking

Most people over here are happy to drink tap water and filtering it isn't something that's really done. I think that infant water would be laughed off the shelves if it became available. Definitely just a money-making ploy. :)

your tap water must be a natural form of spring water or straight from the snow packs.

There they go again - using any means possible to get more money out of gullible consumers.

its the same price as another gallon of water, but geared towards infants. which is my main reasoning is that its just a marketing ploy.

Not true: read the back of formula cans. Water needs to be boiled for a reason. This ignorance can cause a baby to end up in hospital or worse

Sadly that kind of ignorance spread could kill a baby. Water needs to be boiled to remove certain bacteria because if you read the back of a formula can.... The formula isn't sterile. There is a chance of a bacteria poisoning from formula if you dont follow the directions!
