More breakfast annoyance

It's such a 'first world problem' to be moaning about hotel breakfasts. There is some clarity about why the Holiday Inn is having such a tough time with the service; there's a large party of German school kids staying at the moment and they seem to go through the buffet like a plague of locusts. Today my gripe is about milk. Am I completely unreasonable to suppose a large hotel might have more than one type of milk? I regularly stay in places with up to 5 or 6 types - including weird non-dairy alternatives. I asked the waitress - as she flew past - "Do you have any skimmed milk?" No they didn't. We only have that, she said, pointing to the milk container. I asked what it was - full fat or semi and she just walked off. So yes, when I checked out I told the receptionist. She even wrote it down.

I don't care for whole milk either it's like drinking a milk shake.

@boiboing They use the same here in Switzerland, it's dairy cream, it's good, but too rich.

In Germany it's hard to get milk for your coffee - they prefer something called kaffesahne (coffee cream). I find it much too rich.

@boiboing @LadyDuck, I don't want those creamers either, just milk will do for me.

With so many people lactose intolerant and caring for their health, I would expect a choice among three or four different milk. They do not seem to care a lot about their customers in that hotel.

@boiboing I understand, but to add a couple of different milk it's finally not a big deal.

@LadyDuck As I said on another comment, I wasn't looking for organic giraffe milk or anything fancy.

It's a very basic breakfast offer.

Was this a free breakfast? If so, you can't expect much variety. I'm guessing they have low-fat milk. That seems to be the compromise most of these establishments make.

No, they had ONE milk and wouldn't tell me what it was.

Milk, a product that I would prefer not to see LOL. Not a milk drinker, but if you are then you have a complaint.

If you offer breakfast cereals, you need to offer milk.

I remember a supermarket in the USA with a long shelf full of different kinds of milk. I had never seen so many varieties. I don't want to defend Hotel Inn but can understand them. Germans seem less interested in different kinds of milk. Of course, the hotel has international clients and has to cater for them.

The place I stay in Bremen has multiple milks. But I agree that I wouldn't expect to see a lot in a small local place.

All I ever see in a hotel/motel breakfast is one or two types of milk but I go lowbrow.

Two would have been enough. It's not like I was asking for organic giraffe milk.

I thought Holiday Inn was always replete with whatever atleast that has been my experience whenever I had to organise stays for our executives who always had a smile on their face after their stay there.

Aside from not having a variety of milk, they should improve their services as well.

I think I'm used to just seeing the low-fat variety at a hotel breakfast, and occasionally both low-fat and skim. I'd actually rather give my kids whole milk, but it's never available at these.
