I Knew It Was Coming

Last Monday morning, my youngest sister texted me. She informed me that our cousin died already. He was the third son of 4 children by my father’s sister. He was an alcoholic since the past years. He would be drinking alcohol the whole day and the next days. His friends would come to their house with a bottle and would drink until they were so drunk and would leave our cousin drunk too. He actually lost his mind because of his alcoholism. A nurse would always go to their house to see how he is doing and see if his medications are religiously taken. But he cannot be stopped from drinking alcohol. And last Good Friday, he was again drunk . The Saturdays before that he was drunk and was soaked in the rain for many hours despite telling him to go home and change to dry clothes. So when my sister texted me that he was dead, I told her “I knew it was coming to that, may he rest in peace”. Tomorrow, I shall be on leave of absence from the office to attend his burial. It is so sad, that he had a wasted life because of alcoholism at his mid 40’s.
