Don't go trying to cover up your mistakes, own up to them.

I know it is more noble to own it when you realize a mistake in good judgement has been made, whether in the home or school or working world, it's all about integrity. If you have made say, a mistake about things by being in a hurry and forgetting half the things on a list of what makes things work, it can be lots harder later to make up for the stupid things when it has been pointed out.
