Do you have friends who share TOO much?

I have a friend who very rarely rings me. I'm almost always the one to instigate contact. She's the one I wrote about the other day who was on the toilet when she took my call. So for actual real world contact generally it's me who makes things happen. Sadly though in the world of Facebook, she is prone to excessive SHARING to such a degree that I'm almost tempted to switch off her notifications. Generally speaking, I've noticed that the more posts that people share on Facebook, the less they seem to actually THINK about what they are sharing and the less likely they are to stop and ask themselves 'Is this real, relevant or even very interesting?' I confess that I do - like most people - judge my Facebook friends by what they share and far too often I'm left to conclude that quite a lot of them should be locked up without internet access for a good few hours every day and sent to a training course on how to actually check whether things are real or not. I'm so bored of ill-researched assertions about food ingredients, cures for 'cancer', attacks on major companies by those with vested interests in making them look bad. Give me videos of your cat or pictures of your children on their first day at school but don't just keep sharing other people's dumb ideas and propaganda. Rant over.....................for now.

I keep a lot to myself on Facebook only because my husband's family is on there!

I like your suggestion of locking people up and training them to think and research things.

I have two particular friends on Facebook who rant way too much about how this person or that person in their lives have wronged them They cuss and say the four letter word continually. I don't know why I even keep their notifications on, I just try to ignore them.

Turn off the notifications. You can still 'follow' them without having their posts in your face all the time.

I fully agree with you, there is a new "natural" cure every day and there is a new super food that fights everything every new moon. I am "unfriending" those who share too much and even ask to re-share, well, not me!

I just delete most of that sort of posts. Most of my FB friends are actually family and that's the only way I know what's happening with them, so I won't delete them. But most of them I've turned off the follow option. I go to their pages when it suits me.

Oh don't get me started on the 'copy and paste, don't share' requests.

I'm happy with my decision not to be active on facebook. Occasionally, I check in and delete the hordes of people who want to be friends with me without ever having contact with me.

I am completely dismayed by a friend on facebook who was supposed to get married this weekend and he broke it off. She is "Telling ALL" out there in public and he go on and defended himself with all his family chiming in. It's ugly and I'm very disappointed in her.

People get so nasty and I'm sure they don't realise that they just can't take it back later.

I hide everyone that shares annoying things! I had one friend that only ever shared stories about animal abuse.. I know it's meant to tug at your heart strings, but I just can't have it in my face all the time, my heart isn't strong enough to handle it. So I blocked all her posts. I share a ton of pictures of my kids and their activities.. and occasionally a funny picture, but that's about it. I don't really have any interests outside of that.

I leave FB to my husband. If it's interesting enough I trust him to tell me. I'm just not that interested for myself.
