Holy Toledo - The Moon Pie is 100 years old this year!

What is a Moon Pie? It is a cookie that was developed in 1917 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The cookie part is made to taste like graham cracker and in-between the two cookies (or in some cases three cookies) is marshmallow filling and the whole thing is covered in chocolate.
Moon Pies can be found in 99.9% of stores in Tennessee and I assume in other parts of the South as well and all over the US. The box in the photo is the one and only box of Moon Pies I ever purchased. They are sweet and although I love sweets they aren't for me.
I am attaching a link to an article I wrote about the Moon Pie. I don't want to reinvent the wheel, so I thought I would share the link. I do not make any money off of views to that article so this is not self-promotion!
An interesting cookie designed to fill a void back in the good old days!
Photo is mine.

I absolutely LOVE moon pies! They are the best! Definitely a staple here in the south, just like collard greens and grits! haha I wonder how many people up north even know what a moon pie is?
Which reminds me of a visit to Iowa many years ago. My wife and I stopped at a breakfast diner to have some breakfast before hitting the road on our travels. When the waitress took our order, I asked for a side of grits. She looked at me with a confused look on her face, and asked me what grits were!

They are sold all over the US - I'm a Yankee and I knew what they were long before moving south. As far as grits go - tried it once, once was more than enough. No grits or collard greens or anything fried in this house.

@AbbyGreenhill Looking at the picture, I thought that the cover was made with white chocolate.

@LadyDuck It is vanilla 'something' but not white chocolate. If it was real white chocolale they would cost more!

There is no white chocolate. You are right though you would not like them, too artificial and basically flavorless. I had to eat one to try it.

@AbbyGreenhill They don't look it either, which might be why I've never had one.

MoonPies are really not something we appreciate, but they do seem to be popular with some. Hard to believe these have been on the market for 100 years @AbbyGreenhill
What is it about MoonPies that makes you say they are not for you?

Super sweet and flavors seem fake. That 'fake' marshmallow in the middle is horrible.

This sounds such a nice treat. I don't think we have them here although I recently came across Oreos so who knows? Maybe we have Moon Pies as well.

I only bought that one box for the article I wrote, I had to taste it to find out - even my husband who is a sweet eater didn't like them.
