It took me a lot of time to make the mayo.

Usually I make homemade mayonaise with the mini pimer. It takes a minute and it tastes wonderfully. Today, for some unknown reason, I could not do it. The ingredients separated and as I had used a lot of oil, I wasn´t going to lose that oil. So I started another mayo using my hands and beating the yolk while adding little by little oil until it got thick. Only then I started to pour also in drops, the mayonaise that did not work. I did it! But it too me a long time. And after all the work, I did not want to eat the potato I had cooking. I ate it with butter and the mayo is in the plate where I fixed it and covered with a plastic wrap. Do you "mend" kitchen problems or you just throw everything away?

My aunt who was a lady from another generation told me never to make mayo when I had my period. There were lots of rules to not follow back then

@TiarasOceanView THe other one I remember was that I should not cross a patch of watermelon in that condition either as the watermelon would be dry

I do try to fix the mistakes before I throw it away. Sometimes things are just unfixable though.

@Happy2BeMe And many times I just turn the mishap into something else. But the mayo would have to return to its shape and so I did it.

I also have Hellmans, but I prefer the real thing. And usually it is very easy to do it with the minipimer. Only this time it did not work and I had to do it by the very old method of fork and only yolk

@marguicha I would do that too but the Jar of Mayo is what Jorge prefers so that takes over the other natural one.

I don't like to throw food away so if I begin to augment or make something myself I try to be sure it is something I would eat regardless of whether or not it worked out the way I wanted.

My mother always persisted as you did today! And so I've learned, through the years, so fix things that I otherwise might have considered failures!

Then, after the things are fixed, there´s the pride for a job well done.

@marguicha Yes, it's a great feeling! I will never forget the first time Mom fixed something I thought I had destroyed. It was the beginning of a whole new life in the kitchen!

@chrissbergstrom Check it online. If you have a minipimer, you should be able to make mayo in 2 minutes.

I do try to save things in the kitchen sometimes. Making your own mayo - wow - I know no one who does that. It must taste fantastic.

I have made my own mayo since I was 14. My favorite aunt taught mr how. Later on I used Hellmans because it easier. But if I need a big batch (as when making potato salad for a barbecue) I make my own. Delicious and cheaper.

I never throw anything, I would have done exactly what you did. When the pimer fails, I star another mayo manually.

I would mostly try to 'mend' mistakes too but I know the mayo must have taken ages.

If I think I can really fix it then I will try, but if I feel like it's too far gone then I scrap it and throw it away.
