Out of rice

So tonight I was making a very simple teryaki chicken dish for dinner. The whole kit comes frozen, I just heat up the chicken and add the sauce. I also add broccoli to it, and then serve it over rice. Unfortunately I am out of rice, and didn't realize it until the meal was already on the stove. So I figured I had to just serve it plain without rice.. Then a picture on the box gave me an idea! There was a picture of the chicken over lo mein noodles.. Well I don't have lo mein noodles, but I do have Ramen noodles!! So I cooked a few packages of them, without the seasoning and served the chicken over noodles! It came out even better than making it with rice.. And I will use the extra Ramen seasoning packets. I will use them to coat chicken or pork and it comes out really good. Our favorite is mixing some of the Ramen seasoning with some crushed Ritz crackers and use that as breading for pork chops! How did your dinner turn out tonight?

Its a team effort tonight. I got the easy part. I cooked up some mushrooms and onion and made a mushroom soup. Roommate is busy making home egg rolls. Wow the home eggs make that dough yellow.

@katsmeow1213 We generally have the frozen ones too but since there is someone here who can make the real deal, why not?!

And much quicker for ramen than rice too! :) I am glad you were able to find an alternative.

Yes very true.. it was done in a minute! I like the boil in bag rice.. then I don't have to measure water.

@infatuatedbby It's easy.. it comes in a mesh type baggy and you throw it in a pot of boiling water for 10 minutes and it's done. I like easy!

Actually, I made something very similar. I got a put together dish like that from Costco. It is really, really good. This is the second night I have made it..sadly it comes with no rice though..and I was out of rice! So last night I had some Hawaiian rolls with it, tonight I just ate it by itself. I also put some broccoli in it. I have a feeling I probably ate what was supposed to be two servings though..I couldn't help it, it was yummy!

Good thinking - I could see how that would totally work out ! I wish we were neighbors - I could have given you some of our rice (a must in our pantry - and we have all kinds!).

@katsmeow1213 Once I did have rice . . . put it in the cooker and everything . . . it was late as it was, and we were all ready to have dinner . . . and then I realized I never pushed the on button for the rice to cook .

That was mighty good thinking in a pinch. Glad it worked out. Tonight it was so warm, that we grilled steak outside. We had baked potatoes with plain yogurt and fresh snipped chives from my herb garden, and fresh steamed broccoli. I can't remember what we had last night! Lol!

That sounds yummy! We grilled burgers on Sunday and it was so good! We don't do steaks often.. really expensive to buy for 6..

@katsmeow1213 I love burgers on the grill just as much. We missed grilling in Florida. We are not allowed to grill anywhere. It's against the rules.

Somethings turn out better when least expected, I learned to eat a new Filipino dish called " sinaing na tulingan" wife bought. I did not know how to eat this before cause it's from another province and thought it was kinda yucky but like you it turned for the better and now I'm craving for more.

That was a great way to improvise. It's why we love ramens. The ramen flavor packets are also great to flavor rice. My wife sometimes uses the noodles to make pasta salads and the flavor packet she will make rice with veggies in it which is great if you don't have extra meat to add to it

@katsmeow1213 hahaha That's so funny! I'm usually hungry at night, too, and that's been a problem of mine. So I've saved up some low calorie, but delicious, desserts to have at night where they won't do any damage to the healthy eating I'm working on!
