Bridge Finished by the 26th

I read in the Atlanta Journal that the 1-85 bridge will be finished by the 26th of this May. Traffic has been so terrible, I know it will be a huge relief especially those going into Atlanta to work. I spoke to my grandson last night and he said he and his dad are spending so much time on the road. They leave in the dark and get home in the dark. They don't actually travel on 1-85 but everyone who does have other roads overflowing. And there have been wrecks which holds everyone up. It is fast work, though. I thought the bridge wouldn't be finished for several months. But they have crews working day and night. I've forgotten just how much the bridge repair costs but it is a huge amount.Thank goodness we haven't had to travel in that direction. How is traffic where you are?

I have a farmhouse around 35KMs from my house. The road was always traffic jammed because of the flyover construction which was going on for the past 4 years. Few days back we went the same road and WoW, the bridge was already opened up for the public. And believe me, what it use to take 40 minutes to cross the distance of 2km, I could reach the farmhouse within 30-45minutes. Initially we all do suffer with such constructions but the end is always good. But you say it right, if you were luck not to have any work on 1-85.

@RubyHawk No, you are wrong, 'Heavy' is the wrong word for the traffic in our country! You can use the word "congested"! Yes, tons & tons of Iron moves in our country, (may be manufactured by Laxmi Mittal) in the form of vehicles! Ha Ha, just wrote something funny(?)!!

@nitsbubb Maybe I used the wrong word. When I say heavy I mean congested. Is the traffic congested back out in the country.

Your traffic must be heavy everywhere. Here usually traffic in the country is light. Easy driving was what I liked about living in th country.

even if my city here is not as busy as in the capital city, traffic is so toxic. that is why i don't drive when i go to the city. i ride in a tricycle, the main mode of transportation here in my place.

@RubyHawk yes, and we have some tricycle drivers here who are not defensive drivers; they drive like crazy, and charge the passengers more than the usual fees.

Glad to hear the bridge will be finished soon. Here, the highways have been improved over the years.

@RubyHawk The same here. The freezing and thawing during the winter causes major potholes. They have been widening roads, because the old ones are obsolete. I suppose it's the same everywhere.

@chrissbergstrom roundabouts are confusing to me. I'm not used to them, but I suppose I will be soon.

I don't like those roundabouts either. We only have two of those near us. But the trend is continuing so we will have more.

Good that they are getting the work done quickly so it can be opened to traffic again soon. The is so many road repairs going in around here so there are lots of detours in the morning and after work.

Great the bridge is done and you won't be facing any inconvenience, here in India nothing changes whether you have good roads or bad traffic is always there as our population

It's the summer season here and it's also a school vacation. So it's usually in this season that road repairs are being done because there's less traffic jam on the road during school vacations. There's not much of a traffic jam here.

@LoriAMoore If you're sure you want to deal with all the traffic. Traffic where I live now is heavy but when I lived in a small town it was easy driving.

I remember I told you they were going to build the bridge in less time than you thought. The traffic where we are is horrible, there are 65,000 workers coming in from Italy every day. They have to get up at 5 in the morning and they are back late in the night, because the traffic is so bad.

sounds about like my son and grandson. they spend long hours on the road with the bridge out. The workers are working 24 hours a day so they can't do much better than that. . I just hope nothing else collapses.

They seem to be forever doing roadworks around here and it certainly slows things up. And we'd have nothing like the traffic you have.

My sister can't understand why we would live here. She can go anywhere in her county in a half hour. Here you can hardly get out of the driveway in that length of time.

Traffic is never a problem around here until rush hour! And then the highway (I-95) gets so congested! And then, all of a sudden, traffic is all gone again and you wonder where everyone went! lol

for some reason it doesn't seem to be as bad as when i first moved in but then that could be it just doesn't bother me as much. i no longer drive so i would have to ask daughter. yes they really do seem to rush construction a lot more then they used to. i just hope the rush doesn't compromise the safety

So do I. It was bad enough that the road collapsed. Surely it will be made stronger.
