How do You Prepare Steak for the Grill?

Although this is a rack of lamb which I served to our new neighbor in Florida, I am interested in how you prepare your grilled steak. Do you toss it onto the grill sans nothing? Do you marinade it? Do you season it? I love Montreal Steak seasoning. However, our older son made it for us the last time he was visiting. He chopped cloves of garlic, then heated it in a bit of olive oil. Then he mixed in kosher salt and massaged it into the ribeye steaks. I must admit that it was delicious. What's your trick?

I season with Montreal Steak as well, need to remember to get more next time I shop, also use Mrs. Dash garlic and herb and onion and herbs seasonings. That lamb dish looks delicious and so does what your son does to steaks. It has my mouth watering.

Thank you. We grilled steaks last night. My husband apparently forgot about the garlic, and only used kosher salt. It was still delicious.

We marinate it to make it tender. Or at times we may just use tenderizer and sprinkle some ground pepper.

Thank you. We use a marinade for less tender cuts of beef, too, especially London Broil.

I prepare a marinate similar to the one that your son prepared. I crush a clove of garlic, I add to a small cup of olive oil. I add some black pepper, a small branch of rosemary, I whisk and I use to marinate the meat.

@DianneN Rosemary goes very well with the beef, better than lamb.

My fiance likes Montreal Steak seasoning too. He uses it all the time. I don't cook steaks. He does the cooking. I am not sure what his trick is but it always turns out great. My son cooked me a steak that he marinated and it was the so good. Not sure what the marinate was though.

I love Montreal Steak seasoning on my steaks. I would have to look up marinades. I've only marinated London broil cuts of meat.

I use either Kansas City or Montreal spices. I only marinate steaks that are a little tough to begin with. I do cook a lot of steaks both indoors and out, hubs could eat it every day. lol

@DianneN absolutely, but the great flavor is worth it. Once in a while, I will do a chuck which would be like shoe leather without a marinade. But balsamic vinegar, garlic and olive oil turn it to butter, my mother in law used to do that marinade all the time.

I never hear of Kansas City spices. Will give a look and a try. I find that London broil steaks definitely need marinating.

Dianne, I am, uh, a little lazy, I buy steak that has already been marinated and then vacuum packed from the store, so I just open it up and pop it on the grill @DianneN

My boyfriend marinades them. He'll fix them in the morning with some type of steak seasoning he has and Worcestershire sauce and he lets it sit all day in the fridge before he puts them on the grill. He makes really good steaks.
