Little things make me smile. Pancake batter and me: hubby sitting on the plastic loveseat, waiting as I watched the grainy batter bubble and firm. Us out in the rising sun and wind, out on the deck, being silly, breakfasting outdoors. Waiting for the neighbor to come round with his knowledge; his ability to make the pump deliver water from taps and toilet tanks. Hubby yanked the long cord of the Weeder and got its 5 horse power motor to growl. Got that weedy expanse that must be a front yard cause its in front of the house, mowed to submission. Easier to spy on the hens! Late afternoon and hubby making a late lunch. Bread making time and another round of weed wacking, this time in the wider expanse beyond the front gate. Turkey gal bugled: company is here! I ran to the spigot. Turned it on. Water! Glorious water. Thank you, neighbor. Watched water pour onto the dirt around the baby tomato and eggplants. Thirsty and drinking. Evening after supper: a tepid welcome shower of water and soap. Rinsed the weed bits out of my hair. Thinking: this joy I can not share with my feline comrades. Story hour on the radio. Ginger tea and sunset coming on.
