Oklahoma the stage musical

I recently watched the stage version of Oklahoma with Hugh Jackman playing Curly and I have to admit it is better than the original movie version. It is rare that I say that and it's not because I'm biased because I watched Les Mis with Hugh and I hated it. I don't understand what everyone was making a big deal about but Oklahoma was amazing. Hugh has an amazing voice and he's an amazing actor but the rest of the cast was just as amazing. The irony is most of that cast wasn't even American and they perfected those parts and did a better job than the original cast for the movie did and they were Americans. Considering the lead was Australian and I believe the woman who played Laurie was Portuguese. The entire cast was pretty amazing and give the movie cast a run for their money. I almost always like the original better but not in this case. I think Hugh gave it a more genuine feel. I went back and compared scenes on youtube and the acting in the play version is far better at least in my opinion. I really do love musicals and it's nice to see there are still great actors who can pull off these kinds of parts. When you find an actor who can sing, dance, and act you've found an amazing actor. If you like musicals I'd definitely recommend the newer version of Oklahoma. It was a play and the scenery is of course not the way it would be in a movie it's very plain but the actors really were phenomenal. You do see the audience some and the stage changes but for the most part, you really don't notice it or at least I didn't because I was too absorbed in what I was watching. It is difficult to find but you can buy it on Amazon on blu ray for 13 dollars (at least for the US) but you might want to check out a few of the videos youtube has to see if it's the type of thing you'd like before buying it.

I think so, if you're interested you should check it out on youtube they have a few clips on there to give you an idea of what you'd be watching.

It's funny because I am a huge musical fan but I have been trying my best to watch a live stage show of everything before I see the movie versions, which I guess is kind of a lie because I watched so many before I ever saw a live show I guess it's a recent thing lol

lol. I love stage versions of things but sometimes I prefer the movie version. My favorite version of Peter Pan as a child was the stage version with Mary Martin but some musicals really weren't on the stage first. I think Singin' in the rain was a movie musical before people started making it into a play. I'd love to see a remake of that staring Hugh Jackman lol. I am unsure about Mama Mia, I can't remember if the movie or the stage version was first. I know I liked the movie version of Mama Mia, despite that poor Pierce Brosnan isn't the best singer lol but I'm an ABBA fan.

I really need to get a copy of this. I love what I've seen so far on YouTube...but then it's hard to go wrong with Hugh. (Except for Les Miserables. I agree 100 percent with you on that horrible excuse of a musical.)

It is, but yup Les Mis was horrible, I don't care what the critics say. When I watched I thought "Stacy is going to love this" I mean it has comical moments that I'm pretty sure you'd laugh at. Cory doesn't have my sense of humor so it's not always the same watching with him lol.

@Srbageldog it's easier to find on blu ray but you will need to, I might see if I can get Cory to make it off for you and send it to you because I'm nice like that.

@sissy15 I look forward to seeing it. One of these days. I'll have to buy it on DVD if I can find it.

Oklahoma was the first 'live' musical that I ever saw and I've loved it ever since.

I love the stage version, the movie I was never a huge fan of. I think it's sad that a cast mostly made up of non-Americans did a better job at playing Americans than actual Americans.
