My Garden Helpers

One of my garden gnomes.

Last fall I found a couple of unpainted garden gnomes on a clearance rack in a discount store. I bought them figuring painting them would be a great winter project for my husband. He did an awesome job with them. They’re in my garden now along with several other gnomes. I thought they would help me keep the weeds under control. So far they haven’t been much help.

Very cute! Yes, he did a great job with them. Too bad they aren't doing anything for the weeds.

I think they figure I need the exercise.

I have a ceramic turtle in my garden, it's not helping with the bugs either

@fishtiger58 The bugs are doing a number on my eggplant. I'm not sure what to do about it.

My turtle isn't doing much either. Oh well. Bugs are a part of gardening. So are the worms and the bees.

Maybe they think they are looking good and are standing around looking good and have no plans to help you.

Sadly, that reminds me of some people I know.

At least this one is adorable! I've been pulling weeds most of the day. It never ends.

@BettyB True! If left alone, our property would look like a jungle eventually. lol

Flowers can be temperamental but weeds seem to grow in any climate and any soil type. Sometimes I don't think they even need water.

Sadly some weeds are pretty. At least they are until they take over the garden.

@BettyB While they do not help they do make your garden look more beautiful.

They sure do. I have a huge mulched area around a tree. Its full of gnomes, bird baths and flower pots. We call it gnome hill.

There's tomatoes and summer squash in the garden. I'm assuming they're vegetarian.

They should keep the bugs in check.

It's a shame your gnomes aren't more help. Maybe you need to buy the ones holding little spades or garden forks.

Good idea. I have several gnomes, but none of them are holding the right equipment.
