A Tribute to My Mother

What I Liked About My Mother Mother slept in every morning so I made my own breakfast and got myself off to school. This taught me responsibility in being on time for things I needed to do. Mother left me alone when I was sick. I didn't see her the entire day. It gave me time to write. I started writing at the age of 8. This taught me independence. Mother didn't drive and there was only one car in the family. When I needed to be somewhere, I took my bicycle or walked, again, this added to my independence. Mother had the school system give me a series of IQ tests. My mother found out how smart I really was. This gave me self-assurance. Mother chose my electives in high school. I learned I was good at cooking and sewing. Mother was sick on the most important days of my life. This taught me how to be a good hostess. Mother really did do a lot for me. I owe who I am to my mother. Thanks for reading. I hope all mothers on myLot are having a wonderful Mother's Day.

I'm the same way when my kids are sick. I will check on them and give them whatever medicine needed to feel better, but I don't coddle them and mostly I tell them to just rest and try to sleep it off.

When my kids were sick, I checked on them all the time. I never left them completely alone.

@just4him Sometimes they are left alone if I'm working and they're home sick from school. At their ages I don't take time off if they're ill unless they need to see a doctor.

@katsmeow1213 I can understand that. My mother didn't work.

What a very special tribute you've done up here. It sounds like you respect her for all that she inspired you to achieve. Happy Mother's Day!

I tried to find something good about her that she gave me. I didn't respect my mother, only outwardly. You didn't sass Mom. The consequences weren't very good.

I've been trying to find something good about my mother and found there was something after all. Yes, I can cope in this world. Thank you.

This was beautiful. My mother was there for me, when I had gotten sick, broken a limb, or had surgery. My last one was heart surgery, 4.5 years, a few months before she had gotten sick for a whole year. She was also my champion in my writing career, my first beta reader/crit partner, and a great friend. Although we've fought over a couple of things, I had forgiven her in the end before I say goodbye. I still miss her to this day.

I'm sorry for your loss. Thank you. I didn't get along with my mother or my parents, so this is the best I could do.

In a left handed sort of way. I was trying to be nice with this tribute. She wasn't the kind of mother a person would miss.

I think the most important thing is missing there -- the love a child needs from a parent.

It is, isn't it. I often wonder what that would be like. I've done my best to give it to my children.

@celticeagle My mother wasn't a nice person and left me to my own ends. She didn't do anything for me. So your statement looked like you hadn't really read what she didn't do.

Somehow you cannot convince me my mother loved me. My success and accomplishment comes from one source only - God.

@tammys85 Thank you. It was wonderful and then my daughter called me last night and we spoke for quite a while - more than five minutes, so things are improving between us.

Strange how life works. You took some really bad situations and made yourself the best you can be. And that's why God smiles upon you. I'm so glad for who you are.

Some mothers do a whole lot without even realizing what they have done for there child.

It is incredible that you can see the worth in what she did even if at the time, it might not have been comforting.

This was tongue in cheek, so to speak. The best thing she ever did for me was leave me alone. Otherwise all she did was criticize everything I did. Even my report cards weren't good enough for her.

@just4him I know it was...but it is true. You turned out to wise and to love the Lord in spite of what she did and did not do.
